Kevin McCarthy is worse than Ryan (and that is saying something).
So, voting for a Freedom Caucus member is kinda like voting for the Tea Party candidate, huh?
What, Ryan’s the only name on the ballot and NYT acts all surprised that FC backs the one name??
And what do Real Conservatives® want from The FC, anyway; a “no confidence” vote?
If there’s only one boat afloat, you’re on it or you swim with the fishes.
NYT, thy name be Rumpelstiltskin.
I guess I’m really, totally confused by this or it’s Fake News. Why did they not support Ryancare. I’m lost.
The Trump `cultists` as you call them were merely people who were smart enough to see that Trump would do more for America and the conservative agenda than any of the conservative `purists` that people like you supported. The `principled conservatives` hrave been playing a shell game with the base for years. And you`re gullible enough to keep falling for it. Without the Trump `cultists` we would have had Hillary or Hillary lite (i.e. One of your candidates) for President right now.
This was as stomach turning as is Kevin McCarthy now successfully charming Trump.
The only thing that will change the mentality in Congress, long term, is term limits. Trump understands this. But getting Congress to limit their own power is not an easy thing. Trump knows how to play the long game. His strategy seems to be to get some of dems to start aligning themselves with him at some point.
You have to remember that most politicians, of both parties, put personal self interest above ideology. If and when the looming scandals regarding the last administration break, it will likely be devestating for the Democrat brand. At that point there will be alot of shaken Dems looking to distance themselves from their party. Trump understands that and will reach out to them at that point. When that happens, he will have the leverage to start dealing with the GOP establishment more effectively.
I hope if and when that happens, Trump starts pushing term limits again. If Trump can get the dems who start aligning with him, to publicly support him on term limits it would shame the Republicans into supporting them. That`s my wish list, anyway.
Ted Cruz lost, get over it already.
*facepalm*
I despise Ryan because he hates vets. McCarthy is an oily used car salesman.
Those who support them are the bought and the paid for.
I don’t much better regard for the freedom caucus. None of them ever tried to fight until it was a repub president. None challenged Ryan for speaker, and in fact they supported him for speaker.
The house needs to be greatly expanded in size to make it a bit harder to buy these people off. Congressional Districts should represent no more than 100,000 people and should be pegged at .0035% of the national population.
‘I dont much better regard for the freedom caucus. None of them ever tried to fight until it was a repub president. None challenged Ryan for speaker, and in fact they supported him for speaker.’
An excellent point too infrequently made. The FC failed to challenge Obama on even his worst excesses and most unconstitutional maneuvers. However, I’d support them to the hilt right now if they united to call for Ryan to step aside.
If only. I won’t hold my breath.
Four years from now, if we still have some form of Obamacare, Ryancare or Trumpcare will you be singing the same tune. Trump is proving that Ryan was doing his bidding. Ryan’s plan was Trump’s plan. Only real Conservatives stopped it.
As Barry Goldwater once said,
“I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.
And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.”
You moderates have no virtue.
With regards to your question, get back to me in four years and we`ll talk. In the mean time, you have no idea what Trump`s thinking or planning with regards to Ryan. Trump keeps his plans close to his vest - not his ultimate goals- but his strategy for achieving them. That`s why he was and is the only Republican capable of moving the conservative agenda forward. And that includes repeal of Obamacare.
Grandstanding is not a strategy. Ask yourself what Ted Cruz, or whatever conservative hero of the month you wish to chose, would have done differently in dealing with the same Congress - the same Paul Ryan, the same obstructionist Dems, and the same Freedom Caucusas Trump is dealing with. And honestly ask yourself whether they would have been able to achieve the ends you desire, and how they would have done so. Patience grasshopper. Trump is the only one who has a clue how to navigate this minefield of squabbling, preening egos known as Congress.
Obamacare will end - just not as quickly as you would like. But unlike with a president Cruz or Walker, it will end.
capable of implementing his agenda
Trump is incapable of strategic or even tactical thinking. He has to hire it done. He also telegraphs every move he makes. You can see his tells a mile away.
When you talk of a squabbling, preening ego you are talking about Trump. Walker has accomplished a great deal as Governor of Wisconsin and Cruz did as well as the Texas Attorney General. You conveniently forget that.
Walker, Cruz or anyone else who thinks taking Trump down will give them a shot in 2020 is sadly mistaken. If they fail Trump, they fail Trump supporters and Trump supporters will stay home.
President Trump has good reason to distrust that bunch apparently.
Is that the “Freedom Caucus” or the “Freedom Cuckolds”, cause it sounds like the latter to me!
Bob, with respect; re: “fair as Speaker”
I don’t want him to be “fair.” I want him to kick ass, and push legislation through, not have 7 years to plan a Obamacare replacement... and blow it.
Tom Delay once told me: “If you have the votes, it doesn’t matter if you are right or wrong. And if you don’t have the votes, it doesn’t matter if you are right or wrong.”
Be well
Be well.
