In the private meeting inside the House Ways and Means Committee hearing room in the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday afternoon, chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) promised the House Freedom Caucus the world to try to earn their official endorsement. He failed.
Among the things that Ryan promised the members were a return to regular order, changes to the steering committee that decides committee assignments centralizing power in the Speakers officeRyan even promised to give up the Speakers five votes on the committeeand an end to retaliation against Republican members who vote their conscience.
He reiterated his promise made in the full GOP conference on Tuesday of no amnesty bill under President Obamawhich conspicuously did not extend to the next presidentand an end to crisis-to-crisis governance under outgoing Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH). He also promised more regional representation rather than representation centralized in the Speakers office.

I recall in 2012 you poo-pooed the idea of Ryan for VP but at the time the conservative media sources that freepers like were actually pushing for him to be VP so most people here were happy with the choice.
Early 2011 the talk radio conservatives here cursed me for being critical of Ryan
In 2012 the Romney/Bush republicans here cursed me again for the same(obviously after the nomination) , being critical of Ryan. A few demanded that I not ping them again.
But Ryan is playing it smart and tough here,
Make them beg for him, and walk away if they don’t.
Lets see how it plays out.
It was great ticket.
One white guy billionaire who makes his $$$ from investments, saying he doesnt need the other 47%.
The other another white guy calling to end medicare for everyone, except those over 55, who happen to be the main viewers of FNC and GOP voters because ‘we have to honor our promise to only them out of principle’
How could they lose?
Trump's got a better chance than they did.
I’m confused, by what method do we ever believe anyone? What has Ryan done that makes him untrustworthy? Honest question - I don’t understand why he can’t be trusted. Is there basis for this or is this just another case of the gop penchant for eating their own?
The headline is an obvious damned lie.
The author cannot know if it was a ‘bill of goods” or not - Ryan has not had a chance to deliver, so there is no basis for applying that term.
I have always liked Breitbart in the past....but this kind of reporting don’t cut it with me. If you’re going to accuse, back it up. They can’t back it up, so they are no better on this story than all the other lying, biased reportage.
Ryan makes me wanna puke.
Ryan deceived all of us because he spoke our conservative language, and it took a while to see that his ACTIONS spoke differently.
I saw that over 4 years ago and warned that here.
Back in 2011 I saw that Ryan was proposing not only the impossible(to get passed) , but the illogical, in his phony budget resolution that whipped up talk radio fans into a worship frenzy for him.
I kept pointing out that promising only those over 55 the guarantied Medicare gravy train till death and telling the rest of us/them that they are out of luck cause the country is broke is a loser because its makes no sense.
I was cursed and called all sorts of names for challenging out budget boy (Ryan's) hero's claims. I was told here that this idiocy was a big winner with voters if only not for skeptics like me.
It was all BS.
But Ryan seems to be playing a good game for himself:
Ryan message seems to be : “Support me and give into my demands or I will walk away and enjoy my life and current job while you get the blame for the total chaos that results . You don't have John Boehner around to take the blame anymore and I will walk away . Good luck”.
OK, anyone willing to explain what this means?
Bttt
What’s wrong is that Ryan doesn’t have a record of keeping his promises. There is no reasons to believe he will do what he says he will do.
And for the record, Conservative Review gives Ryan an “F” (58%) Liberty Score.
As a Wisconsonite I follow the votes of our Reps, especiallly the ones who claim to be conservative, and I agree with the score Ryan has been given by CR.
Check out sites like COnservative Review that rate politicians. They explain how and why they arrived at their rating. That will tell you what you need to know.
For all you Ryan bashers, where are your more conservative boys?

Where is Ted Cruz on this??
***********************************
Cruz was on O’Reilly tonight and stated a couple of times that he would not get involved in the House selecting its Speaker. BOR had asked him in several ways to express his preference.
And you believe what a politician says? Then I’ve got oceanfront property in Nebraska to sell you.
If it’s not in writing and with a clause to vacate the Speaker’s job if he reneges, Ryan’s word is no more trustworthy than any of the other liars, thieves and perverts who infest Congress.
The Republicans have 24 seats coming up.If the Republicans in Congress continue as they are, I expect them to lose most of those seats.
No. They won’t be voting Democrat. There is another choice, you know. Don’t vote for either. One is not required to vote for anyone. Again, why would a conservative vote for a Democrat or for someone he believes to be a Democrat who claims to be a Republican? Why vote when the guy you vote for will be the same as the Republicans have been since Bush? I won’t vote for a Democrat but if the Republicans in Congress don’t turn around their performance very soon I won’t vote for a Republican either. Voting in the USA has, unlike voting in Iraq or Bengal or Sudan, not historically been a tribal phenomenon in which one votes for the candidate ethnically and genetically closest to oneself with no other reason to vote.
