Tries to rescue brother's campaign by trash-talking Ted Cruz
We haven’t heard much from President George W. Bush during the past seven years.
After leaving office with approval numbers in the high 20s, he made a conscious decision to keep a respectful distance from Washington, to refrain from becoming the Pundit-in-Chief criticizing his successor’s every move.
“He deserves my silence,” Bush said of the newly elected Barack Obama. “I think it is essential that he be helped in office.”
Indeed, when the left was going wild in Obama’s first term, all the Bushes went mum. George W. was suddenly applauded by elites in both parties as a gallant statesman when he announced that he wouldn’t criticize his successor.
Thankfully, grassroots Republicans didn’t agree. And when the Tea Party upstarts helped the Republican Party roar back in the 2010 midterms, the Bushes knew they were revolting not only against Obama, but against Bushism.
President Bush broke his self-imposed silence in January 2011, in a speech at Southern Methodist University. The only problem was, he wasn’t attacking Obama, but conservatives. Addressing the immigration debate, he said: “(I)f you study history, there are some ‘isms’ that occasionally pop up … One is isolationism and its evil twin protectionism and its evil triplet nativism.”
These were potent insults directed at millions of hard-working patriots who helped elect him twice to the White House. Elites in both parties gleefully gobbled it up.
Now, with his younger brother Jeb’s presidential campaign sputtering, George W. is officially silent no more. The man whose own party wouldn’t feature him as a speaker at its past two conventions is trying to reclaim the GOP for the Bush family, to preserve his presidential legacy and that of his father.
At numerous closed fundraisers, George W. Bush is sounding off on the GOP field, according to a new Politico report. Sources who attended say he singled out his home state’s junior senator, Ted Cruz, for withering criticism.
“I just don’t like the guy,” he sniffed. The former president went on to call Cruz’s anti-Iran deal alliance with Donald Trump “opportunistic.”
The more I think about it, the more troubling this is. For years now, as the left has been trying to destroy the country with its open borders, a bumbling foreign policy, the health care takeover, and massive executive overreach, George W. Bush never said anything. He never criticized Obama, or Harry Reid, or Nancy Pelosi. Not when they sunk to their vicious depths to use the “war on women” against Mitt Romney. Not when they whipped up racial tensions in Eric Holder’s Justice Department. Not when they used the IRS to harass patriotic Tea Party groups.
George W. Bush never defended the people who voted for him, or explained that they aren’t guilty of all the cultural or political crimes attributed to them by the left. In fact, he essentially dumped all over the millions of conservatives who were responsible for electing him twice.
Fast forward four years. When George W. emerges in a campaign setting — when he finally breaks his silence to attack someone by name — he attacks Cruz. Apparently, while Obama deserved George W.’s respect and silence, not so for Cruz, who actually worked in his administration, and who became a U.S. senator by tapping into a wave of anti-Washington discontent. The Bushes take this as personal criticism of their family — perhaps Cruz’s biggest sin of all.
Conservatives are trying their best to sort out the post-Bush era within the Republican Party. I believe the vast majority of conservative voters — including those Tea Party voters who like Cruz — honor the Bush family for its service and would like to work with the Bushes and their supporters to build a better country. But it is disappointing to see former President Bush — a man who so many conservatives worked for and believed in — resort to behind-the-scenes attacks on someone like Cruz, who is risking his own career to fight for conservative principles.
Any partnership requires an element of trust on both sides. If conservatives believe that the Bushes — and other GOP establishment types — are attacking them behind closed doors, the trust and cooperation necessary to build a winning Republican message in 2016 may be impossible to develop.
I was done when he turned his back on Campos and Ramos, the border guards. (I think that was their names). And then there was all the Clinton love from the whole Bush family. Do these Dynasty types realize that they lost the Revolutionary War to the “folks”? They certainly do not act like it.
None of the Bush family could be trusted. We were fooled TWICE, shame on us and now they’re going to try a 3rd time
obviously for tactical reasons....try to take out Cruz...he’s in single digits as well and hope that you can add some of his voters to your side and see if you can’t get above 10%. Attacking the front runner has been a loser for !Yeb so it’s time to knock out someone he thinks he can take.
Now, whether they actually can take down Cruz is another matter. I don’t think they can...and I would be willing to bet dollars to donuts that Trump will jump into the fray and diffuse the situation and take some of the heat off Cruz.
Reference Fort Marcy park and a discussion about the clintoons at that time and her dirtiness. Poor bastard killed himself (maybe) for these grifters. Spent A LOT of personal time defending GW Bush and jeb’s governorship at the time. And now this— this go along get along LBJ style fake texas really CT republicanism RINO land. Facts— we got to obamaumao THROUGH the abject failures of GHWBush and GW Bush in the DOMESTIC agenda- including judges. This proves the true calling. And it is the GD CLINTONS doing this, co-opting the “club”. Hillary is a monster— and Bill is a pervert serial rapist. Indefensible.

I do remember back the postings here (not by you) about what a great tactician Rove was. “Rove you magnificent bastard” etc. One user had his handle as Perfect Rovian Storm and so forth.
Rove’s time has come and gone. This is not 2000/2004 where the squishy middle is where the election was won. These days the base is what is going to win elections this time out and Rove is still working the non-existant middle.

Patton was marginalized, hushed, and I believe cleverly murdered by the Komitet, or MGB either one. Eisehower the perfect go along who realized too late that Patton was right, but govt after fdr and trman riddled with reds.
Because Cruz has always been right on immigration. Long before he decided to run for president. He has supported every effort to curtail illegal immigration.

That is probably true, however it’s a very small minority view.
Personally, I am in favor of doing the same thing we did in the 30s, and suspend it until we can absorb what we have taken on, but that assumes that deportation is off the table.
So it’s a complicated issue that as far as I know has not been addressed by any candidate in any kind of serous or direct way. So far only pundits.. and claims by staff of various campaigns..
Certainly not a top drawer issue in this campaign. Even Trump has not personally addressed that particular aspect and whatever you are reading that is passed around by rabid supporters is not the official position.
The only things the candidates have addressed directly is H1B. This is a tiny part of legal immigration and is done by visas, not green cards.
I am only looking at conservative review’s analysis. I like both Cruz and Trump. Isara posts the comparison chart often. Trust but verify...
Well....I don’t pay any attention to his charts. he falls into the category I mentioned, as a rabid supporter..and I don’t see anything wrong with that.
So what I did, is to make every effort to meet ted cruz and I did. in Kentucky, several weeks ago at the protest rally for kim davis.
He is as I said he is...and the only thing that surprised me a bit is that he is one of only a few people shorter than I am.
All I can say,is Damn! I fought with everyone I know defending GW and this is so disappointing! I saw him campaign and Was there like a true supporter! JEEZ, I was a person that went and got my kids friends to support him,etc. I voted for his Dad because of Reagan. GW was my Governor and he wiped the floor against Governor Ann Richards. GW is in the tank with the Clintons because the Bushes are and now has to throw anyone under the bus to get his bubba a bump! Good Luck with that. I know dirty when I see it! Cruz is a true blue conservative! GOPe and the Clintons are doing their best ruin anyone WE Want!
An Army 2 1/2 ton truck attempted a left turn in front of Patton’s staff car. Patton’s driver and another general riding with Patton weren’t injured at all. Patton suffered a broken neck and was left paralyzed when his head struck a metal partition between the front and rear seats. He died twelve days later in the hospital. More here:

yeah, I know the story...
I might add, that if you think it odd that patton was the only one hurt, being in the back seat, the back seat area in this car is a cavernous area. The distance to the barrier from your position sitting in the back seat is several feet.
it is quite likely that patton’s injury occurred simply as a result of being in that back seat.
BTW, I have ridden in this particular model of staff car. They used them as taxis for years at military bases all over the place.

That was his driver’s opinion. Patton gave the front seat to his favorite dog and took the back seat for himself.
Accidents like his are why we all wear seat belts today. The car stops but you don’t.
