Touted as a film showing how hard journalists work to get the story right before putting it on the air, Truth is based on Mary Mapes self-justifying view of her role in Rathergate, which cost her, and CBS Evening News host Dan Rather, their jobs and tarnished their reputations.
For years Mapes had harbored the hope that she could prove that George W. Bush, as a member of the Texas National Guard, had joined the Guard (thanks to help from family friends) as a way to avoid going to Vietnam. As a principal producer for CBS News, primarily for the primetime television program 60 Minutes Wednesday, hosted by Rather, she was delighted to learn, in August 2004, just months before the presidential election, that the proof existed in documents provided by an insider at the Texas National Guard.

Congratulations Freepers.
See B.S. will NEVER live down this reputation!!
Fake, but accurate!

What difference does it make at this point? How many others in high office have used contacts to avoid tough life experiences?
Big deal. It made 75K opening weekend. They might actually have made more money if they put a “stand by” on the screen.
Yep. Took about a half hour after the photocopy of the document was released for a FReeper to prove it was a fraudulent Microsoft Word doc, as I recall.
Mapes knew he had volunteered from the beginning, and tried to perpetrate a hoax.
Funny how liberals never care about other liberals that pulled strings to “avoid Vietnam”.
Of course some of the brave ones, like John Kerry, just went to pad a resume, lie to superiors, and fake injuries to get fake medals they pretended to throw away.

Truth and Other Lies [written by FReeper Buckhead himself]
Dollars to donuts this flick will not only be nominated for best picture, but win the Oscar and Golden Globe in that category.
Yup. The absolute aircraft was also the reason Bush was allowed to skip his last reserve requirements, according to his Commander. The entire thing from start to finish was a fraud and Robert Redford (the commie) thinks this will prove his biased views correct. Won't wash.
Kerry wasn’t “one of the bravest.” He did everything he could avoid honoring his ROTC commitment, including enrolling in the Sorbbone.
Given a cushy offshore Vietnam job, he was a haughty, superior jerk who continued to try to shirk his obligation.
Pissed off, the Navy transferred him into a leaky boat in the Mekong Delta where he could quickly fill the exalted position for such a valuable sailor - prone in Arlington National Cemetery.
I believe the NYTimes had a movie review of “Truth” which was of course extremely sympathetic to Mapes and Rather. However the reader comments were very enlightening. Most were nasty invective laced insults towards GWB of course. But there was a theme set forth by many. The theme was that the forged documents were planted by the Republicans (Karl Rove was mentioned prominently)in order to take advantage of Mape’s unbridled zeal to do anything that would discredit GWB. All Rove had to do was to find a TANG member that hated GWB and make sure that he found the “incriminating” documents.
T’was interesting reading ...
“Dollars to donuts....”
Now that donuts cost about a dollar each, that saying has lost its original meaning. It won’t be long before it’ll have to be reworded to “donuts to dollars ....”
I fear you’re right about the awards.
They’re singing your praises again! I wonder if they’ll give you credit in the movie?
That was written with huge dose of sarcasm.
