The establishment wing of the Republican party is finally getting its wish.
After meeting with House Republicans this evening, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)
58%
admitted during a press conference that he was willing to run for Speaker of the Housebut only if they met a list of demands of what it would take to get him to run.
We as a conference should unify now and not after a divisive Speaker election, Ryan said, calling for Republicans to gather as a team and move from an opposition party to being a proposition party.
Ryans list of demands appeared to highlight party unity but also party loyalty, as he criticized the chaos in the Republican caucus, leading to Boehners resignation.
According to Ryans spokesperson Brendan Buck, his demands included a change in the process for motion to vacate the chair.
No matter who is speaker, they cannot be successful with this weapon pointed at them all the time, Buck told reporters before Ryans speech.
Ryan signaled that the partisan brinkmanship had to come to an end.
We have become the problem, Ryan said. If my colleagues entrust me to be the Speaker I want us to become the solution.
Ryan urged his House colleagues to stop blaming the other party, the president, and the media for blocking their agenda.

I feel the same about the Conservatives. Why is there not one Conservative willing to take the job?
As Laura Ingraham correctly put it “Ryan wants a pre-nup.”
I anybody is trying to talk themselves into believing Ryan as Speaker will be OK just stop. He’s going to likely be Speaker because nobody else wants it and he’s not going to be good for conservatives.
“Paul Ryan is the front man for the Cheap Labor/CoC lobby. If he becomes Speaker the Republican party is dead.”
All anyone needs to know.
Another of the used to be “rising star” of the tea party.
Meh.
“I am stunned by the weak Conservatives in the House. “
Prior to an all-encompassing blame, do not include my rep Louie Gohmert, who ALWAYS has the best of this country at heart, I guarantee.
So much of the “Tea Party” was Republican Establishment astroturf.
Wisconsin should replace Paul Ryan with a Parrot
Those Conservatives: We’re not the problem Paul. You are.
I’ve recently had a problem in my personal life. Someone did something that I felt wronged me a great deal.
I wouldn’t accept it, so I changed my life in ways some of the family didn’t like.
Now I’m told I should, “Take the first step to end it.”
That’s what Ryan is asking Conservatives to do.
People who did no wrong and are merely demanding the right thing be done, are suddenly the ones who need to take the first step. Horse stuff...
Those that strayed off the Conservative reservation are the ones who need to get their act in order.
Ryan, get back to basics. Knock it off!
So he wants a politician’s version of tenure. Can’t be fired as SOTH no matter what.
What an ass.
WTF!!!!!!
Has this idiot been under a rock for the last year?
We're blaming the GOPe for rolling over like a 10 cent whore.
F' ryan.
You are SO right on the mark!!!
We need to cause chaos as much as we can!!!
We need to pound our Reps, emails, phone messages, everything short of marching there and taking the gavel ourselves!!!
NOT ONLY NO, BUT HELL NO ON RYAN!!!
Kindly get your facts straight, Boner wouldn't allow a vote on one. Boner just ended the session and walked out after the first guy stepped down.
If someone needs to be persuaded to take the job, they are not the person for the job.
Of course I believe it. I don’t believe for one minute it is Boehner’s fault. He wants to retire. He has bent over backwards trying to convince someone....anyone to take the job. Do you hear any Conservative on any talk show saying they would take the job? Tweet? Facebook post? Anything? Nothing. They feel like it is easier to not be in leadership and just complain all day. In a way, Conservatives are right about that. Easy Peasy for them.
Daniel Webster is acceptable, wanted the job, yet was denied a vote.
Boner is dishonest and since the 2014 election has been the worst Republican speaker ever. Totally useless, totally vapid, totally insipid. Get your facts straight please.
Sarah Palin or Paul Ryan?
The GOPe is the problem; not the conservatives.
What if:
1.) The Republicans collapse the Benghazi hearings.
2.) Ryan becomes speaker.
Either one or both together would mean the United States government has been completely suborned by the Soros cabal.
