Election '16: Donald Trump charges that President George W. Bush "knew in advance" of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Promoting the Obama birther conspiracy was bad enough, but this is beyond the pale.
There may not be a historical precedent to a major presidential candidate accusing his own party's last president of knowingly allowing an enemy to attack America, killing thousands. Negligence bordering on treason: This is the charge Donald Trump is making against George W. Bush.
Trump told CNN on Tuesday, "George Tenet, the CIA Director, knew in advance that there would be an attack, and he said so to the president."

I'm afraid that's true, but I know we've plenty of people keen to follow a kook turned situational conservative.
Getting the popcorn ready bump!!!
May we please now have some background music from the Twilight Zone.
Something definitely isn’t right about 9/11. I have my suspicions.
Doesn’t IBD have anything better to do than constantly publish BS articles about Donald Trump?
Yes, the Bush administration was aware an attack was coming. They were warned many times in advance. It’s simply a fact. It’s not 911 Trutherism, unless you distort Trump’s words to mean “they knew specifically, the day, hour, minute, and method”.
I’ll take a “Kook” over a “Crook” ANYDAY!
A kook can easily be dismissed once they run off their rails, a “good” (good as in good at their job of being a crook) Crook will rob everyone blind and will do so that they can never be caught.
Could be. Very scary if true and equally bad for our country if it results in Hillary being elected.
That was not what Trump said. But, any lie that promotes the “cause”...
I doubt George Bush would deny that he knew there would be an attack: why is IBD trying to make something out of nothing?
And there are more than enough kooks and frauds ready and willing to twist Trump’s words into a Gordian knot. It has been public knowledge for 10 or more years that there was chatter about an attack known to Fed agencies months before 9/11. They deemed it not actionable. Perhaps. That the admin was lackadaisical about it is not disputed.
[ Something definitely isnt right about 9/11. I have my suspicions. ]
There are 29 pages that probably expose the Bush and Clinton connection to the Bin Ladens that are currently being redacted.
I don’t think our government “DID 9/11” but they sure as hell ENABLED it. And enabled it either by looking the other way DELIBERATELY or through GROSS INCOMPETENCE, Probably a Mix of the two.
To say that terrorists will target the US some day is like saying a major earthquake will strike CA some day. Or like David Stockman always predicting a stock market cash. One day all of these will happen and the people who predicted them will say, see I told you so.
I’m a Cruz supporter (I like Trump and Carson as well), but this is just more sliming of Trump. Tenet did know that intelligence was saying Al Quida was planning an attack, so that means he knew. It doesn’t mean he knew when or how.
From the “editorial by uknown” comments section:
IBD = Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Trump has really got on your nerves.
Trump never stated that Bush specifically knew the attacks were coming ahead of time nor did he ever embrace the conspiracy theories (that the U.S. government engineered the attacks).
Trump did mention that Bush was president when they occurred and that he did not do all that he could have done to prevent them. Trump is on record as predicting such an attack a year earlier (in one of his books). It is fair to say that if Trump was president at the time and his strict immigration policies were in effect, one can make the case that the attacks could have been prevented - or at least made much more difficult to pull off.
After all, many people state that had Winston Churchill been Prime Minister of England during the 1930s, that WW2 could have been averted. And there is much substance to that as Churchill was constantly speaking out against the appeasement policies of western democracies during that time and had he stood up to Hitler when he reoccupied the Rhineland, Hitler would have backed down and likely been deposed by his own people.
if one looks at all of the independent expert conclusions that were based on factual and technical evidence, one can easily conclude there’s an inside skunk in that 9/11 wood pile
From the article,
Trump told CNN on Tuesday, "George Tenet, the CIA Director, knew in advance that there would be an attack, and he said so to the president."
What the intelligence reports of Tenet's CIA actually told Bush was that al-Qaida was plotting terrorist attacks, but neither Tenet nor Bush knew how or when any such attacks would take place.
What Trump told CNN doesn't actually contradict the "fact check gotcha" that IBD thinks they've successfully used.
Trump said that the CIA knew in advance that there would be an attack. Tenet's CIA told President Bush that al-Qaeda was planning attacks. Ergo, Bush and Tenet both knew that the likelihood of an attack was very, very high.
Note - despite the way the article tries to make it sound, Trump didn't actually specifically say there would be an attack on Sept. 11, or in New York City, or on the Twin Towers, or anything else. He merely said, "an attack." In this, he was 100% correct.
So, from one comment that was 100% correct, IBD spins it into "Trump supports 9-11 conspiracy theories!!11!1eleventy!11"
That's the way the news media, and their lackies on FR, roll.
I meant to say stock market crash, not cash.
Trump gratuitously slime Bush. If there is any resentment or realization as to what type of man he is, it’s his fault.
