A Serious Question for the Trump Supporters
Red State ^ | October 21, 2015 | Leon H. Wolf

Posted on 10/21/2015 2:08:43 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

I have a serious question for the Trump supporters, and I hope they will be able to answer it, at least to themselves. It is a question that every supporter of every candidate should be able to answer if they consider themselves a thinking voter instead of a mindless, drooling sports fan. The question is this:

What, hypothetically, would Trump have to do or say to cause you to stop supporting him?

SNIP

............It’s supposed to matter what candidates think, do, and say. There should be a point with literally every candidate where something they have done would push us over the edge to the point that we wouldn’t support them anymore.

SNIP

Yep, seems to have been picked up now by one of the GOPe superpacs targeting Trump.

So many posts made in defense of avoiding giving a simple answer.

Simple question for you, CW.

Why don’t you just simply pick a new candidate to support, now that Trump has 86’d your fave from the race?

Why don’t you just move on?

Trump is the doctor for a country gone mad. Good analogy.

Your visceral hatred of Trump is being exposed. I’ll bet that that you lay awake at night (next to your picture of little Jebbie) hoping and praying that Donald will be killed before the election; for that’s the only way most of us would be forced not to vote for him.

Get over it; the republican party has screwed us conservative voters and now the GOPe will become the “screwed”...not the “screwer.”

I think there need to be answers so that voters know their product

The media controls the LIVs and mainly what Trump is doing is controllng the media. He jumped to 35% mainly in groups that are not political analysts, just ordinary folks. I know some personally and they are not going to run litmus tests on every candidate and rank them in a spreadsheet.

Mainly they want someone who can win. Walker proved that in Wisc. but not nationwide and naturally the media distorted the Wisc wins (with a freeper or two helping the media out here).

My own view is that we need a strong leader without no hints of PC who will cut immigration, corp. taxes, and a few agencies. That latter I'm not sure anyone can do, including Trump. But Trump would definitely ignore the howls of protests at the cuts.

Without rolling back the federal govt, none of the litmus tests matter in the least.

That describes freerepublic Cruz supporters to a tee.

LOL! I don't even watch football. I haven't since the Colts played home games in Baltimore.

Cruz is my first choice. He caught my attention in one of those ambush interviews when he gave the right answers, well articulated, off the cuff. He has not been a disappointment since, has done his share of rattling the GOPe in the Senate, even if he doesn't get the 'rock star' treatment from the media.

Trump is a different sort of player in all this, coming from a different angle, who can well afford to use his existing name recognition to help him beard the media and all the 'right' people--the jerks and mediots we have been waiting to see get their come-uppance for a long time. That's refreshing, but it also tends to gather a faction of people who applaud the drama rather than carefully consider their stance.

You are free to support who you want, for whatever reason(s) you want, but kindly don't project the pep-rally atmosphere in part of the Trump camp on other candidates' supporters.

Oh, I presume they get it in spades. The problem with them is that are desperate in trying to keep us from getting it.

Their desperation is now focused on the down ballots since for most states, the filing deadlines for Senate and Congress are long after the primaries and the coat tails have the potential to be huge when their is an obvious leader against the establishment.

Why are you deciding today to eliminate any candidate from consideration? Are you anxious to have your character trashed by the pimps of the election industry?

It looks like a “deal” dynamic is going down here.

The question of “what will Trump stand for” is getting the uncomfortable answer of “what Trump negotiates.” Many (though not all) of the questions have no absolute moral answer, but are questions of proportion.

We haven’t had a candidate that operated like that before.

It sounds to me like it has exciting upside possibilities because in making this deal it will pull Trump to look more like an honest plebiscite than career politicians do. But it is going to depend on the people. Those who insist on saying never, ever are not going to have any leverage. Those who say their price is high, might have leverage.

“He brags about the crony rules he can twist in his favor... And he clearly has a price.”

You just described the morals of every member of Congress of both national and state level.

Now, what’s different about Trump? What’s different is that HE CANNOT BE BOUGHT!

I like his ability to stick a thumb in the eye of those who think they hold the keys, be they establishment types or ideological purists. He has them all spinning in circles.

Trump has a right leaning, optimist message. He can landslide the election and have very long coattails. If you want to shuffle the deck and re-deal the hand, he is your best bet.

Cruz is my second choice, but my gut tells me he will lose. Funny thing is, it is for the very shallow reason of that haughty look of derision he has in most debating situations. It looks like he is talking down to people. My wife can’t stand him. She likes Trump though. Lots of people I know like Trump.

"What, hypothetically, would Trump have to do or say to cause you to stop supporting him?"

If Trump said " ... if you end my support I will buy RedState and pay this writer to never write again ..."

Then, yes, I would consider ending my support.

If Trump backs away from his Wall plan, he'll lose my support.

Other than that, I don't care what stupid things he says. (and he says a lot of stupid things)

Trump knows he has a trump card and that’s the people themselves.

If the people choose a good attitude (towards God) they could be a very powerful trump card here.

This is a unique situation. There hasn’t been anything like it in America.

Well if Mr. Trump is going to take America into bankruptcy,

then I cannot support that, and I will have to walk away from Mr. Trump..

And I thank Governor Walker for warning me about this.

I think you make a valid point. Trump is not going to do like Romney and say “hey look at that 47%”. Many freepers including me agreed with Romney. Rather Trump will say to the 47%, what do you want? Do you want to be on the dole for life? Or do you want fresh opportunity. Because trump is the plebiscite candidate. It’s up to the American people to decide what they want.

I have the same problem with Cruz - even though he's my first spiritual choice (Trump's my first practical choice). Cruz does come off as smarmy, and that's going to get in the way of his leadership (in terms of people following.)

Hopefully 8 years as Trump's understudy will cure him of that.
