The New York Times reports on the hawkish presidential candidates enthusiasm for a no-fly zone in Syria. This quote from Jeb Bush may be the most irresponsible:
The argument is, Well, well get into conflict with Russia, former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida said on CBS last week, referring to what critics say about the no-fly zone idea. Well, maybe Russia shouldnt want to be in conflict with us. I mean, this is a place where American leadership is desperately needed.
Bushs attitude is inexcusable, and it shows once again that he has disqualified himself as much as any of the other hawkish candidates by taking this position. He is proposing that the U.S. should impose a no-fly zone in a country where it has no authority to do so and risk a conflict with a nuclear-armed government whose forces have been invited in by the government of that country. Bush brushes aside the most significant argument against his reckless policy with the equivalent of saying, Well, oh yeah? Nothing could be more dangerous or dim-witted than courting great power conflict because of a childish obsession with demonstrating our leadership.
A no-fly zone in Syria would risk bringing U.S. forces into direct conflict with Russian forces in a country where we have no vital interests. There is no way that this a risk worth taking when the U.S. has so little at stake there. The truth is that any candidate willing to risk war with Russia for the sake of a Syrian no-fly zone is unfit to be president, and any candidate that endorses this option as a bluff is too foolish to be allowed anywhere near real power. These hawkish candidates are doing us a favor by broadcasting as loudly as possible that they cant be trusted with the presidency. It remains to be seen if the voters are paying sufficient attention to make them pay for their recklessness.
So who are the other candidates that have suggested this. Jeb was already unfit.
I agree. A no fly zone there is idiotic.
The implementation of one would be a big feather in the cap of those claiming this nation is run by a big defense industry conglomerate.
War with Russia would be inevitable. It seem to be a declaration of war on Russia to implement a no-fly zone over it’s objections.
Never should have participated in the Syrian conflict at any level.
“Oh the humanitarian implications!”
War with Russia has no implications humanitarian wise?
Fiorina and Graham were quick to endorse an act of war against Russia and Syria.
It’s especially stupid since Putin is fighting against ISIS, while Obama is covertly aiding them and their brother terrorists.
Agreed. I was actually considering Fiorina until she started saber rattling at Russia. Is she insane or just a McCain puppet?
Carly, Grahamnesty, Christie, seems like a couple more maybe.
Anybody who believes that there are moderates in Syria shouldn’t be President.
Both
Two huge “heck, NO!” candidates as well.
Go to war with Russia because they are killing Isis terrorists. Insanity.
Fiorina, Linda Graham,
Nott sure who else thinks SYRIA is worth WW3 or a single American pilot
Maybe Jeb’s son should enlist
Hillary, Tom Cotton(!), McCain...
Oh and Governor Krispe Kreme from NJ
Another schmuck who should send his own son to die for Syria so the US looks tough
There is no longer any practical way to enforce a “no-fly zone”. If anything, it would be the RUSSIANS who would have the capability in place to carry out such a policy.
And ISIS does not have much of an air assault component anyway.
All of the Establishment hacks endorsed the idiotic “No Fly Zone” against Russian jets including: Hillary, Rubio, Christie, McCain, Jeb, Fiorina, etc.
Party...matters a lot less than spouting the official CIA doctrine in public...to the Beltway Elite Masters of the Universe.
Agreed.
Carly, Crispy and Grahamnesty for sure. I think Rubio too. All the losers who want to look "tough". As Trump says, "Tough and stupid, that's the worst. Right?"
Oh wow, he’s so spot on in so many random quotes I run across, it’s almost scary.
The insanity will only get worse as we go forward.
