LJUBLJANA, Slovenia After weeks of warnings about the dangers involved in Europes migrant influx, and fears about winters arrival, the worries of public officials and humanitarian groups were realized on Monday when thousands of asylum seekers, many of them families with small children, began to back up at crossings and were stranded in a chilly rain.
The backups came just two days after Hungary closed its border with Croatia, and occurred as countries on the north end of the Balkan route tightened border controls while states to its south quarreled over how to manage the unabated human flow into Europe.
The logjam followed a month of relative stability across the Balkans and Central Europe, as countries unofficially worked together to create a safe and relatively quick route north and west by transporting asylum seekers by bus or train from one border to the next, where they could exit on their way toward Germany, Sweden and other desired destinations.
A recent effort to stem the flow of migrants by keeping them in Turkey, and preventing them from entering the European Union through Greece, faltered over the weekend, when little progress was reported in talks between Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and Turkish leaders.
No other plans appear to be on the table, and the safety of the migrants has depended upon the cooperation of the countries along the route, many of them dubious about the migration from the start and resentful that Germany has encouraged it by agreeing to accommodate asylum seekers.

Send ‘em all to Bosnia, let their fellow Muslims take care of them.
I’m just plain sorry. I am NOT going to believe these hysterical heart bleeding, heart tugging cries of disaster for children among the refugees any more. Not even.
Show me an album of pictures over several days, weeks or whatever. We’ve already seen that the vast majority of these invaders are men.
This is another ploy to dispense with common sense and concern about sovereignty with respect to a country’s resources, ability to help and to control the rabid Muslims that want to invade their country for its largess.
Show me the pictures, dozens of them. Not just a dead kid on a shoreline.

Have yet to see photographic evidence of that. EVERY photo of these “migrants” reveals ONLY military age men.
If we continue to allow this “immigration” then we owe an apology to all the Nazis we rounded up in 1945.
Boo freaking hoo
What killed my sense of sympathy was the IS/IL statement that the migration is a deliberate strategy to disrupt the west.
Never mind them actively, violently, and repeatedly refusing help.
Go back to your “home” countries, you moozlum invaders.
I will gladly whip up som kool aid for them.
Do you really think that muzzies want to live among muzzies? If they did, they could’ve stayed in the hell holes they came from. Just wait until we have imported enough of them and you will know what a muzzie hellhole will be like.
T’was good knowing you, America.
Send 'em all to Challenger Deep.
Send em all to Bosnia, let their fellow Muslims take care of them.
Works For Me!
I just returned from a week in Slovenia. The locals to whom I spoke were not happy about the immigrant situation - Slovenia, after all, has a population of 2 million people and cannot take in many immigrants (the locals assume that they will be forced to take some settlers).
Last week it was mostly raining the entire week - I left Saturday morning in rain. I haven’t been to the region of Slovenia mentioned in the NYT article in many years, but it is very rugged and probably colder than where I was (near Zagreb, Croatia).
These poor people should go somewhere it is neither cold nor raining. Like where they came from.
Give them umbrellas and send them back.
“invaders” aren’t “poor people”.
If they get cold and miserable enough, maybe they will go home. If they need a little encouragement, start serving them pork or let them starve.
Let it snow
Let it snow
Let it snow
And let a slew of blizzards chase them back home.
