CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) Police now say a 19-year-old man was shot to death while trying to rob a woman Sunday evening.
According to Detective D.M Boykin, police responded to 1968 Bruin Place around 5:47 p.m. after witnesses reported seeing a man, identified Monday as 19-year-old Traymon Richardson, running in front of Western Branch High School.
There was cop cars everywhere, there was people out and about wondering what was going on in the neighborhood, said Jennifer Kloster. She has lived in the neighborhood near Western Branch High School for twelve years.
She said the commotion, and no immediate arrests, had neighbors wondering if they were in any danger.
The concern of the neighborhood is why does this happen, how is this happening, what do we do to prevent this from happening. So its just a case of something went really wrong, Kloster said.
Monday, police revealed that Richardson was reportedly armed with a handgun and was attempting to rob a 20-year-old woman, when there was a struggle over the weapon and Richardson was shot. Police are declining to say who pulled the trigger. There was another man with Richardson at the time of the incident, but police have not identified that individual.
Chesapeake Police said the woman and Richardson did not know each other.
Police have not filed any charges in his death.
As a result of the new information, police have reclassified the case from a homicide to a shooting investigation, according to MPO Kelly OSullivan.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Chesapeake Police Department or the Chesapeake Crime Line.
According to Kellie Gorral, spokeswoman for Chesapeake Public Schools, the altercation began in the school parking lot, but she says it is not believed the victim was a student at Western Branch High School.
So its just a case of something went really wrong, Kloster said.
I think it turned out rather well considering.
“Traymon Richardson”
You really need a pic to put the image together?
No doubt he was named after something that was overheard in a Jamaican cafeteria.

Bloombergs and the Demanding Moms will categorize this as a school shooting
That’ll teach him!
Has his baby daddy chimed in yet, or is he out playing golf?
why does this happen, how is this happening, what do we do to prevent this from happening
1. Because of the breakdown of the black family brought about by liberalism.
2. See 1.
3. Hold baby daddys and breeders accountable.
But the more convenient answer is to throw more money at mid-night basketball and blame inanimate objects, like guns.
Rest assured one of the baby daddies will chime in.
“...but she says it is not believed the victim was a student at Western Branch High School.”
Uh...which “victim”?
so it was wrong to stop the guy from robbing that woman, eh? if you don't want guns in a school zone, just make them gun-free zones...oh...wait a minnit!
Fwiw, When I used Google to search for Traymon Richardson, Google wanted to know if I meant Trayvon.
LOL
Traymon, Trayvon, what difference does it make?
Right now, I’m sitting in the waiting room of a car repair shop in Portsmouth just five minutes from that high school. To my surprise, I haven’t yet heard anyone mention about how young, innocent Traymon was an aspiring rapper who was thinking about going back to high school to get a diploma so he could get a job to support his kids. Oh, and I’m sure he loved his momma... and Jesus.
Yet another incident that will be counted as a School Shooting by Everytown for Gun Safety.
What about the one from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave?
Unless this was a white women who shot him we won’t hear a peep.
I don’t get it. Why was he referred to as a “19 year old man”, instead of a “Teen”? Are they deliberately trying to obscure his race or something?
No picture needed. His momma took care of that when he was born.
And another child killed by handgun violence.
I attended and graduated from Deep Creek HS in 2004, been to Western Branch a couple times, it always had more of a ghetto feel than my school.
