GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush is defending his brother, former President George W. Bush, against GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s reminder that 9-11 occurred under George W. Bush’s watch.
But the International Business Times (IBT) reports a number of the hijackers on 9-11 actually obtained Florida drivers licenses – or I.D. cards – while Jeb Bush was governor, which allowed them to blend into society.
On Friday, Trump noted 9-11 occurred while President George W. Bush was president, which led Jeb Bush to defend his brother, saying he kept America safe and calling Trump’s statement “pathetic.”
“Despite evidence that his brother’s White House was warned of imminent al Qaeda terrorist plots before 9/11, the candidate doubled down, tweeting a photo of his brother at Ground Zero at the World Trade Center in New York with the caption: ‘He kept us safe.’ The move drew criticism from families of some of the victims of the attacks,” IBT reported.

While Jeb Bush has called Trump’s criticism “pathetic,” the immigration policies of Bush’s gubernatorial administration were under the microscope in 2001 when law enforcement officials acknowledged that Florida had issued driver’s licenses or state identification cards to 12 of the hijackers, all of whom had come to the United States on visas. The St. Petersburg Times reported that at the time of the attack there was a warrant in Florida to apprehend one of the lead hijackers, Mohammed Atta, but “the warrant for Atta’s arrest was ignored.”

I legally lived in a foreign country for nearly a year and was never required to obtain an ID or drivers license from that country.
Why is there such a rush in the USA for the States to hand out an ID or drivers license to aliens?

Well, well. I’d forgotten about this, but I think there was some discussion about it at the time.
Drivers licenses for illegal aliens are pretty common now, but back then I think Florida was among the first to issue them.
It really $ucks to live in the Alternate Universe.
In the other Universe, al Qaeda was summarily stopped and
destroyed, rather than simply deemed ‘rebel’ and armed.
A passport or visa would have sufficed but both Atta and Hanjour were stopped for traffic violations and had FL Dl’s . Ziad Jarrah was stopped 2 days prior but had VA DL but address was false

The governor of Florida (who is a loser for many reasons, this not being one of them) didn't let them into the country. The Clinton Administration did.

The ‘real issue’ is that we never hold anyone’s feet to the fire. But ‘conservatives’ sure do go on about it. Until it becomes time to do it. Then it’s like the “Dude! That was like 2 weeks ago!” guy possesses people and somehow accountability just disappears.
It most certainly WAS.
But now, 14 years later, debating who issued an ID card to a 9/11 hijacker is just a distraction from the current major issues threatening to destroy the nation.
And how senseless is it to think that 14 years ago a governor was informed of every detail about every foreigner allowed into his state under federal laws?
