The window is closing for congressional leaders to avert the double-digit premium hikes that are set to hit 8 million Medicare enrollees next year.
Congress has only a handful of weeks to prevent the 52 percent premium hikes — the largest in the program’s history — that will harm seniors and drain state budgets. And with a key deadline missed on Thursday, aides of both parties say a deal between House leaders by year’s end is becoming less likely.

There is no way to avoid paying taxes. But the illegals have no legal social security numbers, so how do they file tax returns? What about the $100 Billion drug trade? It is all in cash. And what about the underground economy? Do prostitutes, pimps, cash workers, waiters, gamblers declare their incomes and pay taxes?

They are assigned numbers by the IRS so that they can file BS returns and get get refunds for taxes they never payed while the IRS latches on to legal taxpayers like obama latches on to Reggie and sucks them dry.
This really pisses me off. We’ve had an empty nest for just 5 years and just a year before that were finally able to buy a house as opposed to rent one. Now, my husband has gone into business with a partner and he’s working long hours. We’re trying to create a nest egg, for home improvements, travel and then retirement. But now that my parents have run out of their savings they are scraping by on SS and I find myself buying some of their medication and food. They say if things get any tighter they’ll have to move in. Life will be over as I know it. I value my privacy and freedom. I’ve struggled a bit in life and always worried about everyone else being happy but now I feel this should be my time. I never saw myself having to take care of my elderly parents (one with early dementia) so soon.
No COLA for social security either. Loathe what is happening, all this money for illegals and refugees, but zip for our Seniors!
And whatever is the "hold harmless provision"? I'm on Medicare and I've never heard of it.
BTW, if the Medicare premiums are too much to handle and you want to supplement your SS by getting a little job...Be careful, because if you make too much they’ll tax the $hit out of you or just cut off your benefits all together until you’ve paid them YOUR money back.
The excuse for no COLA increase is there is no inflation and Gasoline is cheap. I know all those poor Elderly People take weekly Road Trips to Vegas and are thrilled about spending much less in Gas for their BMW’s and Ferraris.
Went to the Grocery Store today. The cheapest Eggs cost $4.49 a Dozen. They were $2.00 last Year. I know that’s just one example, but it seems that we are spending more money overall for Groceries.
Our Water Bill, we live in S. CA, is costing us 20% more than last year and we are using 10% to 20% less than last year. Simply amazing.

Tell me about it. I had a great job but took early retirement in mid-50’s which REDUCED my federal income tax by $25,000 each year. I was very afraid of retirement, but soon found out it is very cheap to live in retirement IF ONE STAYS HEALTHY. Everywhere they give me discounts as a senior, not much wear and tear on the automobile, very small gasoline bill, not many new clothes needed, a break on property tax, and more time to exercise and get healthier.
Yap, the system is designed to punish you if you work. It is really a shame.
