Philippines braced as Typhoon Koppu makes landfall

Authorities in the Philippines have cancelled flights and ordered thousands of people in coastal areas to evacuate as Typhoon Koppu hits the country.

The slow-moving storm made landfall near the town of Casiguran on the main island of Luzon on Sunday morning.

Koppu is predicted to bring three days of torrential rain, triggering floods, storm surges and possibly landslides.

Disaster officials said a few thousand people living in vulnerable coastal areas had already sought shelter.

Earlier, President Benigno Aquino made a televised warning, the first time he had done so since Super Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, which killed more than 6,300 people.

We have another tropical depression right over us. It has basically been raining 5 to 8 inches a day for several days That is pretty normal for this time of year here. About Christmas time the dry season will start and we’ll have lovely weather for 5 to 6 months

The problem with the sun being out, is it tends to get blistering hot. I prefer the clouds.

The best thing about Guam is the weather

The rainy months are cooler and in the dry months we go snorkeling

Yes, I have been to Cavite myself. I hope they are OK. Nothing at all, here in Davao. I didn't even know there was a typhoon, till I read about it here, on this thread. I need to get out more, huh?

:-)

Thanks for the ping...

we got flooded when they opened the floodgates to lower the water in the dam which was threatening to spill over. Most of the town flooded..we are on high ground so only got an inch in the raised house, but 4 inches in the garage and meeting rooms. We slept upstairs, and have a generator and water pump so we did not get badly hurt. But a lot of damage to the town, and the rice crop was partly destroyed.

The winds weren’t too bad...only a couple of trees down
