One glance at the map below, showing the current distribution of U.S. naval assets, reveals something that has almost never happened at any time in the past decade:
As the map shows, US aircraft carrier, CVN 71 Theodore Roosevelt is currently on its way out of the Persian Gulf, leaving just the LHD-2 Essex Amphibious Warfare ship group to defend the Persian Gulf and more importantly, leaving the hotly contested middle east without U.S. carrier-based air support for the first time in years.
How did this happen?
According to USNI News, the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group left U.S. 5th Fleet on Tuesday with no public timeline for when its replacement will reach the Middle East to continue U.S. air strikes against Islamic State in Iraq in Syria (ISIS) targets. While the CVN 71 The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group is slated to be the next CSG bound for the Middle East, but the Navy would not specify a deployment time other than later this year, a service official told USNI News on Tuesday.
Were not going to talk to future operations, the official said.
That said, the redeployment of the Roosevelt is not a surprise: two months ago the CNN Pentagon correspondent warned that this was coming:
The U.S. Navy will not be able to keep an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf for much of the fall season, according to a Navy official. The official said that's because the Navy has to schedule needed maintenance after years of extended deployments and because of reduced spending due to mandatory budget cuts.

Nice!!!
THIS is real leadership (from behind)!
Way to go, O-dumbo! Nothing shows strength like cowering in the face of Russian thuggery!
The big story is the Pentagon knows what’s happening and there aren’t mass resignations.
Didn’t Obama promise more “flexibility” after his second term election?
If we're going to hand over the Middle East to Russia (and we pretty much did), there's no sense leaving a carrier over there. We certainly can't afford to ever lose one.
Send in the food stamp frigates!
Raise anchor on the Democrat Party destroyers!
Prepare the welfare warships!
Here’s the post-election “flexibility” he talked about on the hot mic. Putin owns our POTUS.
Impending.Taiwan Straits war..?
Ugh, Big Chief Running Dog, leave with tail between his legs, again?
The Truman is CVN 75 apparently. I think he typo’d.
This gap was anticipated more than a year ago, as the Navy put together the schedule to move Reagan to Japan and replace Reagan in San Diego with Roosevelt, allowing Washington to move from Japan to Newport News for mid-life refueling.
The big cause of this gap is the stress of almost 15 years of combat deployments on the carrier fleet. Plus the lag in new carrier construction between the GHW Bush (last Nimitz) and Ford (new carrier class).
The Ford was supposed to be in service by now, replacing Enterprise. It’s still got a long ways to go, especially since it will now be subjected to shock-testing.
STOP WITH THE DAMN RESIGNATION CRAP.
THE GOOD PEOPLE IN THE MILITARY, IN THE FBI, AND IN GOVERNMENT NEED TO STAY ON THE JOB.
OBAMA AND HIS LIARS AND THUGS WOULD LOVE FOR PEOPLE OF HONOR TO QUIT - THEN GOOD PEOPLE COULD BE REPLACED WITH THE LIARS, THUGS AND GOONS OF THE DEMOCRAT SH*THOLE PARTY.
STOP IT AU72
Obama fired all the Generals that would have done something
Have no doubt, Hillary rigged her email to enable access to top secret information by enemy agents. Obama has and is continuing to aid and comfort our enemies and potential enemies by his blatant acts. God Damn the both of them.
Ok thanks for the information. Makes me feel a bit better. Still though if I may say the “optics” of this look bad. Right in the midst of Putin’s bravado we are seen effectively pulling out.
Of course I blame the crazy budget cuts that cut deep into the military while leaving pet pork intact, i.e. the Democrat modus operandi.
Killing ISIS, doing the job Americans won’t do, is thuggery to you? People who would hate the USSR back into existence deserve what they’d get. The rest of us, not so much.
“f we’re going to hand over the Middle East to Russia (and we pretty much did), there’s no sense leaving a carrier over there. We certainly can’t afford to ever lose one.”
Can’t afford to lose a carrier, the 5000 sailors/officers on a carrier, the 100 plus Fighter Jocks worth millions of $’s/fighter jock and the planes on a carrier.
Anyone who served in our Navy before the Cuban Missile Crisis, knows how our ships had deteriorated without proper maintenance until JFK started funneling money into regular shipyard overhauls and upgrading the equipment on those ships.
One can only imagine the poor condition/shape this carrier or any carrier is in with this anti military administration reducing funding to keep our ships sea worthy and battle ready
They can't think of resigning. They are completely consumed by their planning to defeat Global Climate Change!
