China may want to keep their focus on Asia. They face enemies from East, South, and West. It would be a useful exercise in long-range expedition, but committing too much resources may be counterproductive in the short term. However, since China add 8,000 Chinese troops for UN peacekeeping duty, things can change as time goes on.

The Chinese sent advisers and weapons to Syria, thus they do have a small presence there. As far as getting actively into the fight, we will have to wait until after the US buzzes their fake islands in the South China Sea. I suspect that China will use that provocation, plus a few terrorist attacks by the Uigars, as justification for wider action in Syria.
