This is one area I disagree with Trump on.
Constitution was trashed under Bush's lead following the 9/11, using 9/11 as pretext (another case of 'never let crisis go waste'). The massive spying on Americans, TSA indignities (turned us all into Muslims, making us walk barefoot in fron of TSA priesthood,...), DHS, miltarization of local police, etc. all came via his legacy, the so-called PATRIOT act.
Understanding this remark by Trump:
By saying this he guarantees that he will be invited onto every network interview show to give an explanation.
He had 7 days on the job when 911 happen. Also recall the Clinton Administration would not allow Bush full access to top secret information until the end of Dec of 2000 due to Gore challenging the results of the election.
correction Robert Mueller was director of the FBI,not CIA
Bush had been in office a VERY short time when this attack happened!!!! The planning of this attack took years how dare they blame Bush!!!! This lies right at the feet of Clinton!!!!! He was to busy getting BJ’s under the desk of the Oval Office!!!!!
Have you been drinking?
I don’t agree with Trump here, but for goodness sakes, if this is his worst flub...
19 Hijackers took down the trade center buildings. They were here on student Visas.
Bush significantly increased the numbers of Saudi Nationals here on student visas after the events of 09/11.
Bush was a dim bulb. He was just lucky no more terrorism took place here on his watch.
How DARE you “speak truth to power”, D1?
Don’t you understand that there is a whole subculture of GWB worshipers here on FR even now, regardless of his being exposed as a ‘compassionate conservative’ fraud, a big spending liberal just like that other loser from Texas, LBJ?
This is the same GWB who never even found his veto pen until 2006, talked the talk about “not permitting Iran to obtain a nuclear weapons capability” but failing to walk the walk, and his vaunted “Six Party Talks” to prevent North Korea from going nuclear, how did that work out?
And let us not forget how GWB let Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean rot in federal prison, graciously ‘pardoning’ them as he left office, but they wouldn’t be released until March of 2009.
Heckuva job Georgie, heckuva job.
And a potent PS here, WHOSE administration was it that took North Korea off the list of terrorist supporting rogue states?
You got it, GWB’s. Enabling and empowering Kim Jong Il to further oppress the North Korean people and to pave the way for his depraved offspring Kim Jong Fat Boy to take over.
“The first hijackers to arrive in the U.S., al-Mihdhar and al-Hazmi, came in January 2000, followed by Atta, al-Shehhi, and Jarrah in mid-2000. Hanjour, arrived in December 2000.
George W. Bush wasnt even inaugurated until January, 2001.
But dont let facts get in the way of moonbattery.”
The facts you posted don’t exactly help out your case; he was in command for eight months. Would you be willing to add Obama more months? A lot of good and a lot of bad can be accomplished by a president in eight months.
If the immigration laws had been assiduously enforced before Bush came in and AFTER he came in, it might have been prevented. Also, after the 911 event, Bush made no move to enforce immigration laws. Do you think that during Bush’s eight years, no terrorists infiltrated across the southern border?
At the time, I didn’t like to remind people that Bush was in Florida reading to a group of elementary students when 911 occurred. That was how far off beam he and his administration were at the time.
By the way, what Trump pointed out is true, of course, and Trump is not interested in making an opponent look good who is working against him. Would you, or would you think that would be moonbattery? People still don’t like Bush, including a lot of conservatives, so why try to embrace him?
I will always believe that Bush, in his complete insanity to not answer democrat propagandists, made Obama possible. The average voter took his silence as proof against him, rather than the stupidity it actually was.
There’s a difference between blaming Bush and blaming our unpreparedness. I’m not a student of the attacks but clearly there were MANY Red flags that were either ignored or not acted upon.
Yes, the attacks were planned way prior to Bush, and CLintoon didn’t do a thing, but our FBI/CIA/etc were not communicating properly and made many mistakes becuase bloated governments tend to be inefficient and not that good at what they do.
But just as Hillary shares blame for Bengazi, so does the collective leadership of our government to allow such attacks as there wer too many mistakes made.
He was president, OK? ... Blame him, or don't blame him, but he was president. The World Trade Center came down during his reign,
That's not blaming him, that's not saying the stuff of the moonbat left.
I actually think it's politically astute. He doesn't really blame him, but he makes huge marks with the brainwashed fools that are on the edge of Bush hatred.
I'm not a Trumper, but quite honestly, that was a brilliantly framed answer. Particularly if he wins the nomination. The guy knows the long game, and in the short term he makes good marks with the traitorcrat media.
Yeah, there is that..
What did he say that was factually inaccurate? Bush was president when the attack happened. Verifiable and proven fact. Nothing more, nothing less.
Who was president at the time?
Bush was also a wimp when the aircraft was brought down over China. I am not “blaming” anyone for 9/11. There is plenty of evidence that was ignored, across many years.
But, Bush was the guy in charge. He has to accept responsibility because he was in charge. That is what leaders do.
He accepted responsibility and declared a state of war...half the country (Democrats and like minded malcontents) want to continue to consider terrorism a criminal matter...but like it or not we are at war with these people and it will be with us a long long time.
You’ve touched on some of the things I would have.
Frankly, from the word go I couldn’t wrap my head around that marble mouthed nincompoop.
I’ve had folks tell me they thought he was a better president than Reagan. I guess Reagan handed off the great depression or something.
At any rate, I hear ya. We’re in agreement on this one.
Bush did some decent things. I don’t wish to be unfair to the guy, but his eight years was worse than a waste.
He handed off a nation reeling. Sorry, I can’t excuse that.
He also doubled our national debt.
He just wasn’t one of us, and in large part his is the reason why I despise the GOPe. Starting with the Clinton administration, the Republicans have only sporadically been effective.
Newt and company got us a balanced budget for several years, but you can’t hang your hat on that for decades. He have to hang in there.
I hadn’t remembered that.
Whew!
