California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom wants to make it illegal for people to buy ammunition without passing a background check. Hes expected to announce the ballot initiative later today in San Francisco, and Los Angeles Times notes a similar law was rejected a few years ago.
Newsoms proposal would also beef up rules for ammunition sales and purchases, applying the same rules that already exist for firearms. Someone buying bullets would be subject to the same background check as someone buying a gun.
Similar proposals were introduced in the Legislature two years ago but did not pass.

Time to open an ammo store in Nevada right next to the border with California.

Expect CA DOJ to monitor them out of state, and do border inspections.
They already do this to stop smuggling of beverage containers from out of state on which no recycle fees were paid.
They even patrol back roads that may be used to circumvent the border check stations.
Just add ammo to the ‘assignment’

I have wondered when this might become a nationwide movement. I guess I need to buy more than just the usual target practice replenishment!

...but theres no way to enforce this unless youre going to do confiscation. Yeah. Funny about that.

So? Californian detectives can't do anything in Nevada. I'm sure there would be plenty of Cali purchasers nevertheless. What happens when they leave is their problem.

You’ll have a lot of competition from online sales.
