Bush's $4.8 Million Ad Blitz In N.H. Has Had No Effect On His Polling
TPM ^ | 10/15/15 | TIERNEY SNEED

The $4.8 million TV and radio ad blitz in New Hampshire by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and his associated super Pacs has done little to bump up his polling in the state, which is considered crucial to his campaign.

A report by Politico Thursday notes that in the weeks since the ad buy -- which has pro-Bush ads taking up 60 percent of the political airspace in the state -- the former governor's average poll numbers have actually dipped down, from 9 percent to 8.7 percent.

Trump has to file today, too. I’m really interested in seeing his numbers.

You may be right, I don’t know...but this is merely because Jeb is a terrible candidate - even in New Hampshire.

While Bush’s lack of appeal is undeniable, this is the latest instance of a recent phenomenon: television ads may not be working anymore. Another example is the $1M anti-Trump campaign from Club For Growth that had very little/no effect.

A LOT less people watch TV ads these days. I was wondering if that was going to start having an effect on elections. I’m extreme about it, so we watch ZERO commercials in this house. However, even in normal homes, the amount of network/cable television ads that are actually seen has to be dwindling by the day. People are cancelling television and relying on Netflix/Hulu/Amazon, etc. People who DO still have old style TV are time shifting their shows and forwarding through commercials.

Trump seems to me to be the candidate who is most plugged into social media and that seems to be giving more bang for the buck than television advertising. Something to watch.

Interesting times...

Terrific point. Any shows I watch, I fast forward through ads. Same with football games I tape.

But again, according to Trump himself, he hasn't yet spent any money on ads, anywhere. He said "We have some. We may run them, we may not." This was last week.

Yes, seeing Trump's numbers will be interesting. I forgot that he had to file as well, even though he is "self-funding."

Trump is in the unique position of receiving criticism if it turns out he raised too much money! Trump has made much ado about self-funding and refusing contributions except for $8 checks from little old ladies.

Trump released a few ads on social media, including that one showing how Barbara Bush stated a few years ago she did not want her son running for president. Those ads are witty and make people want to click on them.

I think that is the future of campaign advertising. Make it entertaining and put it out there for people to click on.

Many people access TV content ad-free on Netflix, Hulu, etc. Others DVR and FF through the ads. Traditional television advertising is not nearly as effective as it used to be. But make a TV ad entertaining and people will go to YouTube to watch it.

Hah! Good One.

I wonder how much that red-headed skank charged Yeb for her antics at the “No Labels” shindig in New Hampshire earlier this week?

That skank is a political groupie aching to get some sack time with a big fish so she can collect that big mistress hush money payout is my opinion. She has the crazy eyes and crazy posturing.

She’s stupid, to boot. I even saw one picture of her huggin up on Lindsey Graham.....talk about clueless.

Every ad up there ends with a big JEB! in red. I regret to inform “Jeb” that nobody north of the Mason-Dixon line nor in the Northwest will ever vote for someone named Jeb!

EVAH!

See, the establishment isn't as smart as I think I am.

“television ads may not be working anymore.”

Wouldn’t that be wonderful! The networks are basically giving Trump “free airtime” because people watch when he’s on, and they can increase their ad pricing for the shows that he’s on. This may well be a new paradigm.

This is campaigning 101: radio and TV ads do not help candidates with negative public opinion numbers. Once voters have a negative opinion of a candidate it takes a major event to change said opinion. (Examples of such being the death of a candidate’s family member, a truly stellar debate performance, the complete dissolution of a rival’s campaign, etc)
