The FOX national poll also asked the first/second choice question, but did not provide direct tabs of the share of Trump backers who chose Cruz, et al, as their second choice. It did, however, do the next best thing: it gave the entire GOP race standings if Trump were out. Trump polled 26 percent in the overall standings and Cruz polled 8 percent. Without Trump, Cruz rose to 11 percent, a three point gain. Three divided by 26 is about 11 1/2 percent, nearly identical to the thirteen percent from the other two polls.
This might seem to be too low given that Cruz is actively courting Trump and his backers. But the PPP poll suggests that effort is not yet paying off. Cruzs name ID among Trump backers is only 47 percent positive, 37 percent negative. He still has a lot of selling to do before Trumpets think Ted Cruz when their thoughts stray from His Hairness.
Now, there are plenty of scenarios in which I can imagine Cruz will do well with current Trump supporters. If Cruz breaks through in Iowa and Bush recovers to win New Hampshire, for example, he could pick up loads of Trump supporters in an ensuing one-on-one. Or if Ben Carson, who currently is the Trump backers favorite second choice, fades, perhaps the junior Senator from Texas will gain those voters love.

“I recall Trump lauding single payer programs.
One size fits all?”
Yeh twenty five years ago. Trump is calling for allowing the purchase of private insurance across state lines which should make it way more competitive. And he wants to cover the really indigent by allowing them to go to the hospital if they need treatment and working out some kind of a subsidized plan with the hospitals. It will be way cheaper than Obamacare. In a country as large as ours nothing is going to be perfect.
Remodeling that barn won't put the horses back in.
The real blame, as far as I am concerned goes to the nutless wonders of the GOP. I only despise the democrats and communists more.
Just to keep the weenies happy, I am posting my objections to both Cruz and Carson. Along with their similarities to Obama.
Cruz like Obama before him is a first term Senator and the Senate has historically been a lousy path to the White House.
Carson like Obama is African-American. How has that worked out so far? Besides, I prefer an simple American in that job.
Now, I never said that my objections to either Cruz or Carson would exclude my voting for them. hell either is preferable to Bush, Christie and any of the others.
cato, lol
No, Jim Robinson.
Cruz may actually be performing very well against Trump in Ted's own base, but there may not be that many Trump voters in other demographics that would be willing to switch to Ted.
I’ll be surprised if this country sees another president.
I don’t know how long this fake money thing can hold together.
A few people think Bammy will pull something so he has an excuse to stay in “office”. It wouldn’t surprise me if he put us into another hot war zone.
Someone from out of town got the shock of his life tonight when he took a poll of the room and a forest of Trump hands went up.
Really? Who???
I have a bad feeling too.
The GOPe is going to go broke fighting Trump in the primaries.
They will be finished and what is left will become the moderate, subservient wing of the Socialist (RAT) Party.
A new, Constitutional Conservative Party is emerging.
Cruzs' is situation is entirely different. He was born in Canada, at the time he father and perhaps mother were seeking Canadian citizenship. His birth were not registered at the US embassy which was the procedure at the time to insure US citizenship for the young Ted.
I get it that lots of people here like Ted Cruz, but one must be very careful when setting new precedents. Calling anyone born anywhere a Natural Born Citizen just because their mother happens to be a US citizen is a very bad precedent to set. Is this person a Natural Born Citizen? She has an American mother too
Believe me the Rats will eat Cruz alive on this issue should he be the nominee.
During both the Civil War and WW2 we held Presidential Elections. Bammy is done. There is no possibility of him staying in office. I have not doubt he wants to, he will not be allowed to.
The DC Media/Political/Business machine control the levels of power. Giving the people a reason to revolution would destroy the power establishment and they know it. 0 will leave. They plan to replace him with a new figurehead.
Unfortunately for them, the American People have found a Trump card to play.
The Machine will not fight the people's insurgency face to face. Instead they will do what they did with Reagan and the Tea Party. They will plan to corrupt, co-opt and outlast it. Provoking a real Revolution is the last thing they want since the Money men behind the DC Political/Business/media know they would lose.
I hope you are correct. I would much rather be wrong on that one. I’m sure you probably are.
Im sure you probably are CORRECT.
