A Black House Speaker? Former Congressman J.C. Watts Is Interested In John Boehner's Job
International Business Times ^ | 12 Oct 2015 | Aaron Morrison

The U.S. Congress hasn’t elected an African-American as speaker of the House of Representatives since 1874, when South Carolina lawmaker Joseph Rainey became the first black speaker. More than 140 years later, the next person to be third in the line of succession to the Oval Office could be Washington lobbyist J.C. Watts, an African-American.

Typical. The focus is on “black”. A “milestone”. “Making history”.

If he has not changed ..... In a heartbeat

But he's been out of the loop some 15 or so years (IIRC)

Republicans have been asking J.C. for years to get more involved, most times he would say no. I think he has the same problem that Jeb! does. J.C. has been away from the political action for so long, most people in congress now, may know very little about him, other that his obvious race.

Unless JC has changed, I’m 100% for him as SOTH.

They can do much worse than Watts.

1st paragraph;

A college football hero, charismatic conservative, and gifted public speaker, J. C. Watts had star power when he took the oath of office as a Member of the first Republican majority in 40 years. One of two black Republicans in Congress in his freshman term, Watts cited his humble roots in a segregated Oklahoma farm town as the source of his belief in self–reliance and disdain of social welfare. “I wasn’t raised to be a Republican or Democrat,” Watts recalled. “My parents just taught by example. They taught me and my brothers and sisters that if you lived under their roof, you were going to work.”1 Watts quickly became one of the GOP’s most visible spokesmen, quickly rising to the position of Republican Conference Chair—the fourth–highest–ranking Republican in the House. His uneasy relationship with party leaders and a desire to spend more time with his family cut short Watts’s Capitol Hill career in its prime.

I think Watts was a unreliable “conservative” wasn’t he?

Seems like we was right on a few things and wrong on many.

Either way doesn’t seem to plausible.

Watts, Cruz, Palin...
This is all ridiculous.
The House is NOT going to pick a non-member to be Speaker.

J.C. has been away from the political action for so long, most people in congress now, may know very little about him,

Since he has been working as a lobbyist in DC he may be far closer to the action, on both sides, then one might think.

JC Watts would be fabulous I have heard him speak many times over the past years he hasn’t changed a bit, however I don’t know if he has the long claws needed to deal with the Marxists of today’s congress critters

Then why engage in it?

We (not sure who you speak of) don’t need the Presidency, we need a good USA loving red blooded tooth and nails fighting conservative for President.

JC is solid but I prefer Newt. I’d even consider supporting Marsha Blackburn (or is it Martha Blackwell?) if someone would just tell me why she should be Speaker.

Rainey led an interesting and classic American life

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Rainey

The Democrats have really succeeded in destroying this nation.

First they used oppression and terror to gain their power. Then, and to this day, they use their prior terror and oppression to wheedle support.

How about Allen West? I could get behind that and we don’t have a conservative much better that he is.

“The House is NOT going to pick a non-member to be Speaker. “

Can they pick a non-member? Why would they be able to do that?
