Nearly two dozen state workers and retirees dropped into The Bees Capitol Bureau on Friday to munch on brown-bag lunches and think the Big Thoughts about government work.

Well the retirees attending this event are probably in their mid fifties. They retired after a working life of job security with automatic promotions and no way to get fired. 13 paid holidays per year on top of vacation and sick leave. Being able to accrue sick leave and vacation for the entire length of employment allowing one to retire years early. A platinum health care plan that is paid for by the taxpayer who is getting by with a $6,000 private plan. Retirement with 90% pay while being 50 some years of age. Oh also saddling the California taxpayer with some $500 billion in unfunded pension and health benefit liabilities.
Pretty much the same in all of our states. Do the math; as usual, BIG GOVERNEMNT is unsustainable by any measure.
Look at the expense of that DMV office in the photo. Marble floors arranged in patterns that, believe me, cost a lot more than just rows of the same color. It’s a mall-like atmosphere with lots of industrial art. All that’s needed is a bare bones kiosk. But that office space alone costs hundreds of thousands of dollars more than necessary. Now, multiply that by every office, every employee. Then, consider that modern technology makes most of those state jobs obsolete.
Unfortunately, there are many of these drones in society...everywhere. Most are smug, yet clueless. Parasites.
This link will allow you to see how much public employees are paid here in Commiefornia. And don’t forget that they can go back and get another government job to double dip. http://transparentcalifornia.com/
That photo is from no DMV in California. There would be 30,000 illegal aliens standing in line in front of that guy
I imagine most working stiffs don’t appreciate having to work themselves to the bone, and an early grave, to support State workers in a lavish lifestyle they themselves can only dream of.
A million dollar parasite college football coach is retiring. Goodbye. Others will suck up the money somehow. No budget will be cut in that regard.
Amazingly, they can build lavish buildings, yet still treat average joe citizen like fecal matter on the street you step over...
I understand their jobs can be drone like dealing many moronic people...
But would be nice to see a smiling face greet you while you are getting service...
Yep, the double-dipping, the pension spiking, the rampant phony disability retirements so already large pensions are mostly untaxed. It’s maddening and has been going on for decades with only the most minor of reforms having been made.

I was supposed to take photos of the production floor of an Israeli company for a brochure that would be circulated internationally. (This was after a visiting Japanese delegation fairly fled from the place.) I submitted photos of our almost entirely black production force at their machines. Management insisted I stage more photos using entirely Caucasian workers from the professional ranks. I did caution them that if word ever got out they might face legal difficulties. They po-poo’d the possibility and nothing did come of it. But from the photos you couldn’t tell anything about or workforce. Photos can be staged.
The DMV in Tampa looked like a refuge camp in some third world country. I was one of a relative handful of actual Americans there.
They always lean on their shovels, and there are too many of them.
Believe me, we know.
“But would be nice to see a smiling face greet you while you are getting service...”
What you’re talking about is good customer service. My experience is the stronger the competition the better the customer service. The weaker the completion, the worse the customer service. No competition means no customer service. Remember what it was like dealing with the cable company when there was no alternative?
And hands in pocket while they watch someone else dig. You know what they call those hands in pocket? government work gloves.

Many years ago, my younger brother got a job with the state highway department. His job consisted of holding up the “slow, workers present” sign. He saya it’s the worst job he’s ever had. Good pay but mind numbingly boring.
He should've erased the comma ...
It was and, I believe, still is an exceptionally well managed state fiscally. It had to be because the populace was well engaged and wouldn't put up with it otherwise. When I was a pup there, the governor still answered his own phone and I met every one of them without going out of my way to do so.
Of course, I realize that few states are like that, but it is possible.
AgencyPersons holding up shovels at worksites are about to be replaced by the new ‘self-supporting’ shovel.
