A battle over sanctuary cities is dividing Senate Republicans.
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has teed up legislation that would crack down on cities that don't comply with federal immigration law.
But its unclear whether the bill can get through the Senate and not just because of opposition from Democrats.
In addition to limiting federal money for sanctuary cities, Sen. David Vitter's (R-La.) bill would increase the amount of prison time an undocumented immigrant could serve if they re-enter the United States after having previously been deported. Conservatives like his plan, but it has drawn opposition from Sens. Jeff Flake (Ariz.) and Mike Lee (Utah.), who have concerns about broadly applying mandatory minimum sentences for undocumented immigrants.
-snip-
Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nevada) wants to link Vitters bill to immigration reform.
We haven't had a discussion here for two years. For two years we haven't had a discussion and so all the sudden we're going to bring up an immigration issue and not talk about the bigger issue, Heller said.
The Nevada Republican didn't detail what would be included in his proposal, instead describing it as "comprehensive immigration reform."
Heller added that he hasn't decided whether hell back Vitters bill if he cant get his own amendment attached.

Flake is a Flake. I have great respect for Lee so I want to check out his reasoning be for I start yelling.
And they wonder why the base is upset!
Clueless, utterly clueless
Lee has always been for amnesty.
Lee is a long-time Amnesty and H1B Pimp.
If Mike Lee is against this bill you can bet your pants there’s some crap in this bill not mentioned in the article.
Nevada and California rely heavily on illegals to populate the hospitality industry. These owners are perfectly willing to destroy the country in order to keep the cheap labor flowing. It never dawns on them that if they keep it up nobody will be able to afford to stay at their hotels and casinos and they will become the ghost towns of this century. They don’t care.
Heller voted with the RATS to keep Obama’s Executive Amnesty order from being defunded.
“Lee has always been for amnesty.”
You must be talking about Senator Rubio (Rineo). Here is Mike Lee “No guest workers; no amnesty
[The federal government should] make clear that illegal aliens will not receive amnesty in any form, and must return to their own countries before applying for a visa; illegal aliens should receive no benefit from having entered the United States illegally, and should not be granted guest-worker visas or the opportunity to “purchase” lawful immigration status.

Ditto to that.
New Immigration Bill: Buy a House, Foreigners, Earn a Visa
Introduced yesterday by Senators Charles Schumer of New York and Mike Lee of Utah, the proposed bill would allow any foreigner who invests $500K in residential real estate to earn a three-year residential visa.

Sen. Mike Lee of Utah Introduces S. 293, Companion Bill to H.R. 633
Senator Mike Lee of Utah reintroduced previous Seante version of H.R. 3012 companion bill as S.293, again as a companion bill to Rep. Chaffetz’s H.R. 633 to eliminate the per-country numerical limitation for employment-based immigrants and to increase the per-country numerical limitation for family-sponsored immigrants.

Yeah me too. Lee is a great intellect and historian. His take on this deserves to be heard. But I can’t imagine why he would be against a two strike mandatory sentence unless it has something to do with violating some other principle of law that has priority.
The sanctuary city bill should a stand along and then the Kate’s law a stand alone. They should not be lumped together. The Dems are going to filibuster this deal and it will never pass as is.
Harry Reid would have had this all worked out before announcing bringing up the bill, instead of making his caucus look disorganized and at odds with each other.

Well I appreciate the source . I actually read it. Here is the main provision of the 2011 bill
...”the proposed bill would allow any foreigner who invests $500K in residential real estate to earn a three-year residential visa. Some stipulations: buyers would have to pay in cash, live in the home for at least 180 days of the year, apply separately for a work visa, and, of course, deal with issues of citizenship and voting rights separatelythey are not included.”
I simply don’t think that is “Amnesty” . I am not against LEGAL immigration. There is not a centilla of “amnesty” in what you resourced . I just beg to differ.
“Amnesty” is where , for example, a Mexican crosses our border, sucks of the largess of welfare ,medical care and education while he repeatly commits crimes but we give the illegal bastard citizenship. That’s what Rubio and Bush and that silly Graham want. That is the McCain style amnesty— not this you cite. —$500,000??? woe.
I knew Flake and Heller were on board The Cheap Labor Express. I’m stunned that Mike Lee is not on the side of the citizens. There has to be a reason, I thought he was one of the few that were.
There are only a few. Sessions, Vitter, Cruz,
Lee is an H1B visa pimp who was willing to pass McCain-style comprehensive amnesty in order to get his H1B visa limitations eliminated. He chickened out at the end, but he’s as 2-faced as the rest of them.
Flake isnt even a RINO he is a leftist democrat masquerading as a RINO
