Mark Cuban for House speaker?
The billionaire impresario said in a tweet he may run for the House's top spot.
Cuban certainly can try. The House website says: "Although the Constitution does not require the Speaker to be a Member of the House, all Speakers have been Members."
In McCarthy's wake, who could be speaker?
Cuban floated the idea after the front-runner, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, suddenly withdrew from the race Thursday, leaving two members officially running: Reps. Daniel Webster of Florida and Jason Chaffetz of Utah.
Webster announced his candidacy in a video on Monday. "As speaker of the House, I would commit to serving you by promoting principle over power," he said.
Chaffetz announced his bid on Sunday in a statement. "I came to Congress to help fix problems, and as speaker I will fight every day to make that happen," he said.
On Friday, Rep. Darrell Issa of California told CNBC's "Squawk Box" he may run.
Many observers have also mentioned Rep. Paul Ryan for the post, but he said he's not interested. Rep. John Boehner, whose resignation plans created the vacancy, said Thursday he would stay on until a successor is selected.
In addition to duties leading the House, the speaker is second in line for the president, after the vice president.
Just a way for him to beg Trump into putting him on the Trump ticket?
Don’t you have to be a member of Congress to run for Speaker?
That could be the plan.
Dont you have to be a member of Congress to run for Speaker?
No. You qualify.
No...I suggest a crash dummy as speaker....it will not be much of a difference...
“No. You qualify.”
Sorry I’m wayyyyyyy tooo honest.
Ha! Love it! Way to show DC that they’re not the “rightly heirs” to the Speaker *thrown*.
MSNBC just said an outsider would be a MAVERICK!!!
I didn’t mean to insult you. You don’t qualify like Boehner and McCarthy. In fact, compared to them, you are overqualified.
MSNBC just said an outsider would be a MAVERICK!!!
They could shoot free throws to settle disputes in the House.
Trump success has definitely put the political bee in Mark Cuban’s bonnet. Now Mark wants in on some of that splashy public theater. Who knows? Cuban’s plan may work out, with the right group of supporters around him.
If Trump and Cuban worked together, great. This would require Cuban to take a secondary role to Trump. I’m not sure he could do that.
It is vitally important we get a lot of things done over the next four year term. If Cuban could help facilitate that, fine.
If he would develop a rift with Trump and become antagonistic, it could be a devastating defeat of what needs to happen.
Cuban would need to make it very clear he grasped this concept before I would sign on.
We don’t need a president and a wanna-be.
We need a president and a speaker who could work together.
If for example, Cuban didn’t agree with Trumps plans for address illegal immigration, he could serious damage it.
That’s something I wouldn’t want to see happen. If Cuban couldn’t keep his ego in check, it could happen on a number of issues.
I didnt take it as an insult. I guess I need to read up on the whole arrangement again. I might throw my hat in the ring as well.
I hate it when Cuban speaks.
LOL!!! Better than Bonehead’s complete capitulation ;-)
I know anyone can be voted speaker but it still seems a bit strange that third in lone can become POTUS merely by being voted in by members of the House.
Isn’t Cuban a lefty?
He voted for Obama
Hannity was pushing Newt Gingrich as speaker.
