A coalition of labor unions, businesses, lawyers and human rights activists won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for its decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy in Tunisia in the wake of the Jasmine Revolution of 2011.
The prize to the coalition, known as the National Dialogue Quartet, comes nearly five years after an unemployed street vendor set himself on fire, touching off a political earthquake that toppled Tunisias longtime authoritarian president and proceeded to reverberate throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
Among the disappointments of what has become known as the Arab Spring collapsed states in Libya, Syria and Yemen; the return of rule by a military strongman in Egypt; and the rise of the Islamic State in the sectarian caldron of Syria and Iraq the relative success of Tunisias transition to democracy has been a wisp of hope.

Who? What?
Is this a legitimate award, or is there a political agenda behind it?
We have to ask. Remember recent revelations from someone from the Nobel committee, who said that Obama was given the award to try to influence his actions as president?????
I remember when Obama won the award. It was announced early in the morning. When the media called the White House that morning asking for a reaction, the Obamabots at the White House asked if this was an April Fools joke, asked if it was April Fools Day, as they couldn’t believe that Obama would get the Nobel Peace Prize. Even people working for Obama couldn’t believe he won it.
And remember so many funny threads here on Free Republic that day, making fun of Obama winning the award for doing nothing to earn it.
I thought it would be that guy who served in Vietnam.
If that's the case I'm surprised they haven't given it to Kim Jung Un of North Korea.
(sob..sniff) that’s just so darn...nice..(sniff) Whisky Tango Foxtrot is this?! Oh, I get it. Now we’ll see t-shirts...”Tunisian Lives Matter”? What time do they start breaking and stealing stuff?
At long last, she was the one actually making the selections, mostly to amuse herself.
Oh lets see how they react to this one... Ah ha ha ha ha...
Not funny Gwendolyn!
Why have just one nesia when you can have two...
Lurch is crushed.
I didn’t realize anyone was to the LEFT of Kerry...I’ll be darned.
Who?
The prize named after the inventor of dynamite.
I know. LOL
As it turned out he really only spent three months there and his service record shows he shot himself three times and not much more. Oh, yes, he spent a Christmas in Cambodia at the request of Richard Nixon who hadn't been President at the time.
