Six U.S. servicemembers and five contractors were killed in a C-130 crash at Jalalabad Airport in Afghanistan, the Pentagon said late Thursday.
The crash, which occurred just after midnight Friday Afghanistan time, involved a C-130J assigned to the 774th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, which is part of the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing.
A U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss the incident publicly, said told the Associated Press that there was no indication of hostile fire.
All aboard were assigned to Operation Resolute Support, which is the NATO-led mission to provide training and security assistance in Afghanistan.
About 9,500 U.S. servicemembers are still in Afghanistan following the administrations decision earlier this year to keep a larger U.S. force size on the ground to help the Afghan government solidify security gains.
Active Duty ping.
Taliban claiming they shot it down
Thanks for the update.
The Taliban would claim they sank the H.L. Hunley. The Taliban are liars from the git go. But aside from that I have a 22 year old son in college and I’m damn tired of seeing other parents have to sacrifice their sons in Obama’s half assed war.
It had to be shot down, but Obama can't take that kind of transparency on a week where his foibles are coming home to roost by the hour on live television.
jus' sayin'
Didn’t the Taliban make the claim that they shot down the
Space Shuttle Columbia?
Night ops have claimed a few Hercs over the years.
Sobering read:
No press conference from Obama about these brave men dying..didnt think so he’s too busy wanting to take away our 2nd Amendment rights
I understand that you’re “jus’ sayin’”. But “forced” is your word and not one I used.
RIP.
It’s a hell of a bird! I had the “opportunity” to run up the ramp of one at Bangkok airport. A drug sniffing German Shepherd “hit” on my papers and I was “detained” for a while. When they figured out the dog was just hungry for a little excitement they called my plane and told the pilot to drop the ramp for another passenger. I was rushed to the runway in a Jeep and ran up the ramp as fast as I could. God, I was glad to get on that plane!

One time experience with C130. In 1966, the Major airlines were on strike when I got orders to report early to my ship in San diego, due to sailing date. I had to cut my 30 day leave short by 12 days.
My dad drove me from our home in Wilmington, NC down to Charleston. I got a MAC flight that left there, flew to Alabama, then Texas, before ending at Travis AFB (San Francisco). I got my first ride on a PSA 727 from SFO to Lindbergh Field, SAN.
Too many hours in a sling seat sideways, then the SFO takeoff where I thought the 727's tail hit the runway as we went seemingly vertical, and the loud thump of the wheels hitting home.
All in all, I can just chalk it up to part of my personal history. Some times are more fun than others!
And don’t we love remembering those experiences.

If that is true we are in an insane world. C-130J is the latest gunship - Ghostrider.
Ok, seems j frame can be airlift or special ops also.
