Meeting with Kim Davis has pope-watchers asking, what did Francis mean?

The revelation of a private meeting last week between Pope Francis and Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, set off a vigorous debate in the United States on Wednesday about what message the popular pontiff may have been trying to send.

Unlike some of the other private sit-downs during the pope’s trip to the United States and Cuba, the Vatican declined to discuss the session with Davis, whose stance in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming the right to same-sex marriage has made her a hero to some religious conservatives and a villain to many liberal activists.

“I do not deny that the meeting took place,” the Rev. Federico Lombardi, a Vatican spokesman, said after Davis’s attorney announced it in a news release. “But I have no other comments to add.”

The mystery further energized the debate over what Francis stands for, barely more than 48 hours after the pope flew home to Rome hailed as a moral authority who refused to be pulled into American culture wars.

Really? A guy who believes in the Cult of AGW was not pulled into the liberal culture wars? Interesting.

Culture warriors are only conservative. The liberal side of the equation is considered “normal”.

It was an answer to Obama’s White House papal-visit freak-show featuring the gay bishop, abortion-supporting “nuns,” and transgendered religious.

It's an expression.

From Wiktionary.org:

(idiomatic) The person, object, or situation identified in the context has lost its novelty, freshness, appeal, or acceptability.

I know what it means, but who is the rose ( or the person referred to as such )?

The rose could be the pope, depending on the context. It can also refer to an idea, ideal, or whatever.

What I'm saying is that the radical left has been giddily enamored by this pope, thinking he was one of their own in every respect, but when a contrary action or word emerges, at least from their own viewpoint, they suddenly turn on him as a "traitor."

The proggies infiltrated most Protestant denominations and so much of the RCC, they just assume the Pope is all theirs, too.

As with most “progressive” movements, and especially communist/socialist movements, there is a thing called “party discipline”. One does not break party discipline. That is, the General Secretary or central committee or leaders or cult head set the tone and rules by which party/movement members conduct themselves and what party lines are to be adhered to. If the media or others suddenly start attacking Francis, it is because they believe he has broken party discipline. You either toe the line; organize a faction within the movement; prepare to be expelled or sent to the gulags.

The Pope expressed his concern about the family in his address to Congress:

"It is my wish that throughout my visit the family should be a recurrent theme. How essential the family has been to the building of this country! And how worthy it remains of our support and encouragement! Yet I cannot hide my concern for the family, which is threatened, perhaps as never before, from within and without. Fundamental relationships are being called into question, as is the very basis of marriage and the family. I can only reiterate the importance and, above all, the richness and the beauty of family life." - Pope Francis

Be it same-sex marriage or divorce, why should anyone be surprised when the Pope takes steps to show his displeasure.

If he would have said what he meant and meant what he said,
Those interested would not be agonizing about what he was saying.

I bought a couple of “Francis the Talking Mule” movies from Amazon. Very cute stuff.

Regarding the Pope:
I have been lurking on liberal sites like DU or HuffPost and they are apoplectic over the Pope meeting Kim Davis. Most of their posts are as follows.

“I’m not religious but I liked this Pope. After finding about his meeting with Kim Davis, I am heartbroken.”

Did they expect this Pope to renounce the Bible and totally agree with their liberal agenda?

The Pope broke party discipline. “Close aides” are downplaying his meeting with Davis and claiming the Pope was “blindsided” by the meeting. He broke with the agenda and his handlers are cleaning it up. I just wonder how much it cost to buy the Vatican or if blackmail of the pontiff is in play.
