Russian lawmakers give Putin OK to use troops in Syria

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian lawmakers voted unanimously Wednesday to let President Vladimir Putin send Russian troops to Syria. The Kremlin sought to play down the decision, saying it will only use its air force there, not ground troops.

Putin had to request parliamentary approval for any use of Russian troops abroad, according to the constitution. The last time he did so was before Russia annexed Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula in March 2014.

The Federation Council, the upper chamber of the Russian parliament, discussed Putin's request for the authorization behind closed doors Wednesday, cutting off its live web broadcast to hold a debate notable for its quickness.

Sergei Ivanov, chief of Putin's administration, said in televised remarks after the discussion that the parliament voted unanimously to give the green light to Putin's plea. The proposal does not need to go to another legislative body.

I heard 3 years ago Obama said he was drawing the line. A red line. And no one better cross. I wonder if Putin knows this.

Here’s the thing. If Putin wanted to impress people.....bring in 20,000 troops over the next two weeks....start a six-week campaign, and literally chase ISIS out of the four-corners of Syria, period. Do it with journalists watching the whole thing.

At the end....with ISIS kicked out and mostly in Iraq....then have Putin on the spot in Syria and just nodding his head....that’s all it took...real men fighting evil. At that point, the Europeans will eat out of Putin’s hand for fixing the whole problem, and Obama will be standing there in total shock that he was made to look like some fool in front of the world. Even the mighty Pentagon won’t be able to say much.

Right now, I'd say Obama's plan is to assassinate Assad...just like Khadafi. Just can't stay out of it. We simply don't have a dog in this race. I don't think we even have diplomatic ties with Syria...no less an interest.

Will he ask Congress anything? I believe they have already said no.

Yes - Putin is a bad ass and not a very nice guy.

And when a dope addled, homosexual, pussyfied wanker goes up against a bad ass the bad ass will win every time.

The Middle East will grind them up as Afghanistan did. The only way to deal with these savages is the Genghis Khan technique - towers of skulls. They understand that. But even the Russians are incapable of that - wouldn’t be able to handle world “outrage”.

Good idea. He can then push all the crazies out of Syria and Iraq and into Saudi Arabia. If so, then goodbye, Saudi-American oil prostitutes.

LOL. Only this time; instead of taking ground without firing a shot, (except a warning shot or one or two mooslime Tartars’ getting their virgins), they'll burn through a lot more ammo I suspect.
