Sen. Ted Cruz blasted outgoing Speaker John A. Boehner Monday for sticking around for a month after the Ohio Republican announced his intent to resign.
The Republican presidential candidate from Texas was rebuffed by his colleagues from even getting the show of 11 hands needed for a sufficient second of a motion for a roll call vote on a process that would set up an amendment to the clean continuing resolution on defunding Planned Parenthood and the international nuclear agreement with Iran.
After saying he would repeat his procedural maneuvering Tuesday, he turned much of his focus to the decision by Boehner to move the CR ahead of his recently announced retirement plan.
Speaker Boehner has decided to cut a deal with Leader Nancy Pelosi, the leader of the Democrats, that this dirty CR thats going to be passed out of the Senate is going to go to the House and the speakers going to take it up on the floor, pass it with all the Democrats just like Leader McConnell just did, and a handful of Republicans who will go with Republican leadership, Cruz said. A very significant percentage will vote no, but here is the problem: Speaker Boehners done that more than once.
The stopgap spending bill, which runs through Dec. 11, will arrive in the House no later than early Wednesday, which happens to be the last day of the current fiscal year. The motion to thwart a filibuster threat garnered 77 votes in the Senate, meaning all that remains is burning the clock.
I believe if Speaker Boehner had done that, had passed a dirty CR funding Planned Parenthood and funding this Iranian nuclear deal, that he would have lost his speakership, Cruz said, accusing Boehner of leading the Democratic Party.
Boehner said Sunday on the CBS program Face the Nation he was confident he would have survived an effort to vacate the presiding officers chair like the one introduced by Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C.
Speaker Boehner faced a conundrum. If he does what he and Leader McConnell promised, which is fund all of Barack Obamas priorities, he would have lost his job, Cruz said, even though Boehner told CBS he could have gotten roughly 400 votes, meaning that Democrats in the House would have joined to thwart the procedural maneuvering.
Notice he said hes going to stay a month. Hes going to stay a month in order to join with the Democrats and fund Barack Obamas priorities, said Cruz, before turning his attention back to Senate Republicans.
Cruz criticized the Herculean procedural steps to get legislation through that would revive the Export-Import Bank, contrasting it with the effort to block appropriations to Plann
My FR tagline is from a legal maxim,-- "It is better to suffer every wrong, than to consent to wrong."
Ted Cruz won't consent to wrong.
Good for Ted.
Good for Cruz....I’ve been asking this since Bonehead first announced he was leaving.
Why wait? Why not leave now?
Unless it’s to instill further destruction to the USofA.
That's what is going to happen.
Good for Cruz!!!
I love a MAN that stands up and says it like it is...Trump/Cruz 2016!!!!
Hey Jane, don’t know if your question was rhetorical, or not. But, here’s the answer-—
Speaker Boehner has decided to cut a deal with Leader Nancy Pelosi, the leader of the Democrats, that this dirty CR thats going to be passed out of the Senate is going to go to the House and the speakers going to take it up on the floor, pass it with all the Democrats”
Boehner’s last dirty deed before he gets his K Street reward.
Yeah....I’d read that, somewhere. It was a rhetorical question.
Pretty disgusting, isn’t it?
Wonder if he’ll stop by rehab - no, no, NO! on his way to cushy K St job.
He is a profile in courage.
Ted Cruz couldnt get anyone in the Senate to back him tonight as he tried to get a ban on Planned Parenthood funding and a linkage of the Iran Nuclear deal in a government funding bill. He stood alone on the Senate floor:
Cruzs amendment would place a one-year ban on federal funding for Planned Parenthood. It would also ban the Obama administration from using funds from the short-term bill to implement the Iran nuclear deal or any assessed contributions to the United Nations until lawmakers receive the side deals between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).The side deals have been a key point of contention among opponents of the deal. Cruz and House Republicans have suggested that the 60-day congressional review period for the Iran nuclear deal hasnt started because the administration hasnt given lawmakers the agreements.
After the procedural back-and-forth, Cruz slammed Republican leadership, suggesting they repeatedly surrender to President Obama.
You know, President Obama has negotiated a catastrophic nuclear deal with Iran. Republican leadership goes on television all the time and rightly says this is a catastrophic deal, he added. I would suggest that if we actually believed the words that are coming out of their mouths, then we should be willing to use any and all constitutional authorities.
After this Cruz launched into an hour speech, one that Mark Levin just tweeted out saying its a MUST LISTEN.
JOHN BOEHNER: The Very Best DemocRAT Speaker Ever!
Here we go: Boehner wont rule out vote to raise the debt ceiling before stepping down as Speaker
There are 98 traitors in the Senate, and many more in the House. Give them all the Rosenberg treatment.
http://blogs.rollcall.com/wgdb/boehner-budget-deal-halloween-treats/
“Boehner could pick up the Senate-passed long-term highway bill [with Ex-Im reauthorization], add the debt limit and whatever other last-minute treats he can muster with substantial help from Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and her caucus and send the message more a Great Pumpkin than a Christmas tree back to the Senate...”
All the House RINOs have to do is vote for the rule and then vote against the bill and let the Dems pass it.
Like they always do.
Wait. I was told by rock ribbed conservative patriots that this was not possible since feet would be held to the fire.
I guess we have a lot of liars.
How about McConnell?
It’s going to be fun to see the entire GOP base turn on these sh*thead a**hole Republic*nts too.
Please, excuse my French.
“Why wait? Why not leave now?
Unless its to instill further destruction to the USofA.”
Obama told Boner when he could leave.
