HOUSTON, Texas Yesterday, in the weekly update of Fox Newss Presidential Power Index, Digital Politics editor Chris Stirewalt offered his analysis on Americas Newsroom with Gretchen Carlson for why Ted Cruz replaces Jeb Bush as this weeks number one pick to win the 2016 GOP Primary, citing Cruzs strong positioning to compete against the partys establishment candidate.

Gretchen Carlson: Time now for the 2016 Presidential Power Index, where we look every week at whos up, whos down in the race to the White House. Well this week, theres a huge shakeup in the Republican contest. Chris Stirewalt, the Fox News Digital politics editor and author of Fox News First joins me now, as he does every Monday. Okay lets get right to it – Ted Cruz, up one, knocking Jeb Bush out of your top spot Why the shift Mr. Stirewalt?
Chris Stirewalt: Jeb Bush has been number one in this index since the day it started. It has been Jeb Bush all the way along for a very simple reason, that the Republican establishment usually gets its way. In the end, the guy with the most money and the core support of elected officials, etcetera, outlasts his challengers and wins it.
Thats whats happened the last two cycles, its what usually does happen. And Jeb Bush has been in that position – even though as many people who have emailed and tweeted, Well this guys in fifth place, hes not winning, why is it Jeb Bush? well, we care about things other than just how are you in the polls today, we care about how do you look for the long haul.
And heres how Jeb Bush looks like for the long haul right now. He looks like a guy that might be able to pull off winning that establishment wing of the party and locking that in, but Marco Rubio is a real and genuine threat to his chances to lock down that part of the party. And what that means is that Rafael Edward Cruz, Senator from Texas, that guy has a better shot if he does in fact make it to the finals against Jeb Bush to win the Republican Partys nomination.

Stirewalt is a GOPe propagandist. Sorry. The agenda here is pretty clear. Jeb Bush needs Trump gone. The rest of the field will be nuked in record time.
What is a power index?
“Stirewalt is a GOPe propagandist.”
I disagree. I think he makes some good points when he’s on the air. He even noted last night that Bush’s favorability is in the tank and those with good favorability rankings, like Carson, Rubio, Cruz and Fiorina are in good shape for the long haul if they can successfully fund raise. He even pointed out that Cruz, specifically, has a good shot given his strong fundraising and rising favorability ratings.
Baloney. The guy absolutely despises Trump. Check out his twitter feed.
If Jeb Bush had Trumps numbers, leading every national poll for 3 months, in the 20-30% range in a 15 candidate field, leading every state poll, etc. The Stirewalts of the world would be saying its over.
No candidate has ever had such a commanding lead for so long without being coronated by the media.
Yet because its trump they come up with power rankings and list the guy with the lead near the bottom and the guys in the single digits at the top (Bush before Cruz).
Garbage propaganda.
Three weeks ago the all-knowing pundits said that Bush was on top and had shoved Trump out.
Didn't work.
Two weeks ago these same "experts" decided that after her spectacular thumping of Trump in the debate, Fiorina was now on top and had pushed Trump out.
Didn't work.
This week, for no particular reason at all, these same "gurus" have Cruz coming from nowhere and pushing for the top spot.
Wont work either.
Pretending that Trump isn't there is a lousy way to go about this business.
You know who else has a favorability rating in the 30% range? Kim Kardashian.
There are lots of reality TV personalities that could get 30% of the people to say they support them but could never win a Presidential election.
Very early primary season filled with kissing babies and visiting state fairs is much different than a one on one, head to head competition. In the primary, the media hangs on every word. That is good news for those with superior arguments and a positive temperament. It is death for clowns who do nothing but shout platitudes and non-sense.
Fox News is a mouthpiece for The Cheap Labor Express.
Everything from them is suspect.
You know who else has a favorability rating in the 30% range? Kim Kardashian.Someone might be spending a lot of time at TMZ.
I’s almost like these fools are sitting around with their fingers in their ears while humming.

These aren’t exactly popularity ratings Nitzy.
It’s actually kind of sad to watch folks sell Trump short.
He has been presenting his view of where the nation should head. The public has been buying in.
He hawks Conservative principles and I would think the public buying into them would be good for Conservatism.
The Ranks of Conservatism will grow. I think that is good.
Trump leads in the polls and all else failing to take him down, now leading in the polls is denigrated with the suggestion it’s Kardashian like.
There something very twisted about some of the anti-Trump rhetoric.
They are exactly popularity ratings. Let's wait and see what happens when people actually have to drag themselves out of bed and down the road to vote for the next leader of the free world. My guess is that the mouth breathers who laugh and slap their knee when someone calls their opponent "fat" or "stupid" or "ugly" or "a looser" won't be as motivated to get out and vote as they are to answer a couple questions from CNN, MSNBC and Fox.
Face it. Your candidate is wholly contrived my the MSM and will be summarily excused by them after he has fulfilled his purpose.
Then after that happens you will look around in shock and will complain about how "unfair" they were to him.
I meant...
Very early primary season filled with kissing babies and visiting state fairs is much different than a one on one, head to head competition. In the general, the media hangs on every word. That is good news for those with superior arguments and a positive temperament. It is death for clowns who do nothing but shout platitudes and non-sense
What I meant is that the actual arguments and demeanor of the candidate will have a lot more impact when it is R vs D instead of R vs R vs R vs R vs R vs R vs R vs R vs R vs R vs R vs R. Calling people fat or stupid can be a cute distraction during a primary. It will be a campaign killer in the general. Without bluster and obnoxious behavior, Trump is lost. He can't communicate conservative principals. He just learned them in the past couple years.
.
Stirewalt is just addressing the realities that the other networks are diligently ignoring.
.
Did you watch either his 60 min interview or his CNN interview (both within last two days)?
Fox’s mantra “anybody but Trump” :-)
