Smithers Will Come Out on The Simpsons

In an interview with TVLine, Simpsons showrunner Al Jean reveals that the show's 27th season will be a big one for Waylon Smithers, lovelorn assistant to megalomaniacal businessman Mr. Burns: After decades of pining, Smithers will finally come out to his boss.
"In Springfield now, most people know he’s gay, but obviously Burns doesn’t," Jean notes. "We deal with that in two episodes."

Yet another mainstream franchise introduces a homosexual character and a homosexual plot.
Maybe the Flintstones will be next. After all, the theme song says "you'll have a gay old time."

I’m so sick of every show on tv has these gays on there coming out and being shoved down our throats. Does no one fear GOD anymore. They are trying to brainwash the children into thinking the gay lifestyle is normal.

I've never regretted stopping watching new Simpsons several years ago. (Still watch the reruns on FXX when they show pre-2000 episodes.)

Smithers being in the closet, barely, is part of the gag. All the jokes and innuendos were funny because he wasn’t openly gay.
This will now make it dull, unfunny and more in your face than funny.

When the Simpsons stopped becoming an equal opportunity offender ( Making Lisa eco-saint and never wrong was the start of it) they flushed a lot of the funny straight down the crapper.

Well, they’re not really introducing anything. Smithers has been gay since season 1.
I’m sure they’ll use this storyline to push the agenda though.
