(Washington, DC) Republicans in the House of Representatives have banded together to ensure a cooperative debate on strategy and party disagreements before House GOP conference chairwoman Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) can try to help House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) take Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)s s soon-to-be-vacated job as House Speaker, and instead force a special extended conference meeting that can now happen without McMorris Rodgers approval.
The debate is enabled by Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL), who was circulating a letter to his colleagues calling for debate on the Speakership process. At least 50 fellow GOP members have signed Roskams letter calling for a special conference meeting.
In one Saturday, weve secured enough signers to ensure an extended special Conference devoted to discussing the Speakers retirement and the best strategy to heal the divisions within our Republican majority, Roskam spokesman Michael Shapiro told Breitbart News on Saturday evening.
This is an important chance for all members of the Conference to give candid feedback about the conflicts that have prevented us from performing at the level we are capable of, he said. The Rule requires such a special Conference meeting to be held as soon as practicable, which is an extremely important opportunity to reflect before we rush headlong into leadership elections.

Under regular order, the House would debate and vote on funding bills each year before sending them to the Senate. The return to standard procedure would allow conservatives to include many of their voters priorities in agency spending plans and perhaps prevent GOP leaders from giving up conservatives demands during an end-of-year budget crash with the White House.
YES! It is only because of the use of omnibus continuing resolutions rather than individual appropriation bills that every conservative attempt to use the power of the purse results in the threat of closing down the entire government. With a return to regular order the appropriations for the Department of Defense would not be threatened by a fight over Planned Parenthood funding in the appropriations for the Department of Health and Human Services.
Only if there is a viable Conservative opposition primary candidate .
I think Boner knew that enough people nationwide were upset with him ,
and were willing to help fund an opposition candidate, and he was concerned about aprimary challenge like Cantor was challenged.
He didn't just quit - he's running scared of a primary challenge that would also embarass him and the Liberal lites.
That's where the movement should effect change elsewhere : in the Primary fight !
Boehner deep-sixed those who weren’t loyalists, and rewarded those who were. That says to me that McCarthy is Boehner’s man.
I don’t know why anyone would want him in charge.
We actually need to view this as a presidential decision. The Speaker is next in line to the presidency after the VP.
Which conservative in the House would be the best president?
It’s those “wacko birds”, still causing trouble...
This is a great move. Read the article. The House Freedom Caucus just stopped Mccarthy getting immediately elected. And they will vote as a block. Awesome news!!! It’s a big fat FU to the weepy cheeto.
Yes, even better data. We did not ideologically win the House back by appealing to moderate voters in blue states like CA, IL, and WA.
The ideological authority in the House comes from the Conservative wing. Our leadership there needs to represent that.
We should not settle for anything less than a sizable shift toward a more Conservative base.
But to keep power in the house, you have to play ball with the elite. Right now, that is soft liberal to hard left marxist.
Same reason why Trump won’t be the candidate. If you don’t do what the kingmakers want, you don’t get to keep being in power. Right now, that is not the conservative program.
We need to convert the king makers before we can do anything. Voting doesn’t work, unless you have a few spare billion dollars and the connections to influence those who actually do the work of the State.
The GOP House caucus. Anyone can say they're running for the leadership post. But they need a majority of the other Republicans to vote for them. And right now the real Conservatives are only about a quarter of the caucus at best.
The ‘fact’ is that we get liberals and 60%ers because some people are resigned to it and create self fulfilling prophicies.
I really don’t know what goes on in your heads. How, in detail please, do you think conservatism magically appears from electing and supporting liberals? Do you all suppose it is the big bang theory of politics where at first there was a single point of moderation and then a big explosion happened and conservative governance formed and filled the political universe? Really?
No? Then WTF do you think you’re going to get by resigning yourselves to accepting exactly what you claim you do not want? There is going to be pain. Accept it. If people had not stupidly created this scenario, we wouldn’t need to have to deal with a painful fix. but we ARE going to have to do this the hard way. There will be losses. We will lose some elections. Thats the way it works.
But if ‘our’ people keep demanding more of the same and accepting liberalism, we may as well just run McColnel for President and shut up with the complaints.
“real Conservatives are only about a quarter of the caucus at best. “
Important to bear in mind. We can’t just demand our way.
OTOH including those who are ‘middling’ conservative and/or represent a conservative District we come to about half the caucus who are amenable to ‘some’ compromise with conservatives.
Hensarling declines to run.
Will support Price for Majority Leader.

I'm open to suggestions but, as you effectively note, I'm a bit on the pessimistic side.
Let me make your day even worse with this scenario:
It's 2017 and Ted Cruz is being sworn in as President of the United States.
The Senate now contains 59 Republican Senators.
The GOP gained another 22 seats in the House of Representatives and now have a huge majority.
Chuck Schumer is going to be the new Senate Minority Leader.
Senator Schumer announced that the Dems will filibuster all the same bills that they did over the last few years when the GOP first controlled both houses of Congress and Obama was President. Only Omnibus funding bills will allowed. Planned Parenthood will be funded at even higher funding levels. Government shutdowns may be necessary to accomplish these goals but the GOP and Ted Cruz will, as usual, be blamed. Cloture votes will be routine and will routinely fail. The "nuclear option" to bypass the 60 votes for cloture will not be used. The nation will continue to spiral into a liberal black hole.
Tell my why this is not a possible and even likely future.
Oh trust me. My days, politically speaking, don’t get worse since I understand this mess completely.
Whatever non establishment candidate that gets elected...Trump, Cruz, whoever...will immediately run in to a brick wall. The moment that the establishment loses the Exec, they unify openly. Bank on it. to be honest, I don’t think one can honestly look at this situation today and not see them working towards that end openly now.
Outside of CW2/Revolution2, there really is only one solution. America has to get liberals out of power regardless of what letter appears after their name. Until that happensm Ted or Don will have to govern exactly as Obama. by EO. As an Imperial president.
Or they won’t ‘govern’ at all.
So it seems the establishment was attempting to jam McCarthy through the system, and into the Speaker’s seat.
Apparently some saw the scam, and reacted appropriately. Hopefully we will see someone other than McCarthy as Speaker.
Of course we are all jackasses now to him.
Dr.Thomas Price (R-Georgia) from that states 6th Congressional Dist.; presently Chairman, House Budget Committee.
Roskam got screwed over by the other RINOs.
K-Street Errand boy Adam K-Zinger, Aaron Haram Schock and others sided with Scalise and McCarthy
Until our elected representatives can govern the republic with out direct supervision it looks as though there is going to have to be some baby sitting.
Now we have the social media/organization tools need for the task of spreading the word of Americanism and applying the pressure to those we elect.
Maybe all is not lost.
