(Washington, DC) Republicans in the House of Representatives have banded together to ensure a cooperative debate on strategy and party disagreements before House GOP conference chairwoman Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) can try to help House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) take Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)s s soon-to-be-vacated job as House Speaker, and instead force a special extended conference meeting that can now happen without McMorris Rodgers approval.
The debate is enabled by Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL), who was circulating a letter to his colleagues calling for debate on the Speakership process. At least 50 fellow GOP members have signed Roskams letter calling for a special conference meeting.
In one Saturday, weve secured enough signers to ensure an extended special Conference devoted to discussing the Speakers retirement and the best strategy to heal the divisions within our Republican majority, Roskam spokesman Michael Shapiro told Breitbart News on Saturday evening.
This is an important chance for all members of the Conference to give candid feedback about the conflicts that have prevented us from performing at the level we are capable of, he said. The Rule requires such a special Conference meeting to be held as soon as practicable, which is an extremely important opportunity to reflect before we rush headlong into leadership elections.

If McCarthy is chosen, nothing will change.
A lot of effort was expended to get rid of Boehner - for what?
Who the frick picks the guy that runs next!!?? That’s what I want to know!
It’s those evil TEA Party ‘crazies’ i bet.
I hear there only are 10 or so them. And they’ve been destroying progress the past couple years according to Boehner.....
This shouldn’t be about trying to heal the party yet. Right now healing the party is code for “getting conservatives to go along.” This should be about throwing the rinos out on their collective you know what.
Giving boner the time he needs to foist his departing agenda on us.
VACATE NOW!
yep.
Boner is going to screw us on the way out, mark my words.
He is going to fund Obama through the end of his term, thus neutering anything positive any conservative replacement for him could possibly accomplish.
Roskam-IL is only at 61% on the Heritage scorecard. Rodgers-WA at 58%. McCarthy-CA at 63%.
Not good when moderates from blue states are running the show.
There are other positions besides Speaker to be determined. Importantly there is the makeup of the powerful Rules Committee. The whole ‘deal’ has to be agreed on.
There’s a lot of necessary wheeling and dealing and compromising involved.
The important point about the delay is that a plan for the hear future is to be determined. A plan the Speaker will be elected to implement.
Right now the GOP gets to choose the next Speaker of the House and the candidate they pick will be the one with the majority of the votes from that Conservative to Liberal Light group.
The winner will be someone in the middle of the GOP political spectrum. I want true conservative Speaker so I don't like that -but it is the reality. Is this new Speaker likely to be an improvement over John Cry Baby? It's doubtful but possible in a marginal sense. In any case it will be somebody with a 60% or so conservative voting record.
Spot on and what needs to be better understood.
Just kill the Stupid Party now and start over.
Electing Trump seems our most direct route to this goal IMHO.
Just emailed my Rep this AM that no one in present leadership is acceptable as Speaker. They are all failures and should not be put in position to continue Boehner’s reign of fail.
Blue state moderates, left coast republicans, conservative Deamoncrats. A common smell.
Very Interesting. Thanks for posting.
If McCarthy is elected Speaker and the capitulation continues, November 2016 will mark the end of the Republican Party.
Expect a huge number seat changes in the House. Cantor was just a warm up...
They will get their conference and then right after that Kevin McCarthy will be elected Speaker. As Mark Levin so aptly said “McCarthy is Eric Cantor with 10 less IQ points”
Conservative review has McCarthy at 45%, Roscam at 56% and McMorris-Rodgers at 49%. All “F” grades.
