Twitter Follower Growth Momentum - Post-Debate - September 27, 2015

The table below shows the number of Twitter followers added by presidential candidates for the month of September. I also added a column for followers added since the September 16th debate and that is how I stack ranked the candidates.

I'll have a final September update probably Thursday as I'll be at the Yankees/Red Sox game Wednesday night in Bronx after work and won't have time to post them that day.

Then I reset for October and start fresh.

No longer in the rankings is Scott Walker who dropped from the race a few days ago. I once had high hopes for Scott Walker but it was clear he wasn't ready for prime time.

There are at least a half dozen other Republicans who don't belong in the race and are just adding static. I expect those to drop out in the near future as their money dries up. Jim Gilmore; George Pataki; Linda Graham; Bobby Jindal; John Kasich and Rand Paul to name six.

Donald Trump's Twitter momentum has definitely slowed for September. In August, he picked up 600,000+ followers and will be lucky to reach 350,000 this month. Still it's enough to keep him in front of the rest of the pack. But Fiorina, Carson, Rubio and Cruz are also adding followers at a rapid clip.

As we head into the fall, look for the campaign to get much more serious. I was surprised to see that the much ballyhooed "attack Trump" campaign blitz never materialized after Labor Day. While Trump's momentum appears to have slowed a bit, I think it will pick up once again as he announces his detailed tax plan tomorrow and starts to win over people sitting on the fence. I'm just not buying the poll numbers for both Carson and Fiorina. I think a lot of Trump voters are parked there for the time being by people who want to see a non-politician in the presidency. It's quite possible they are leaning Trump but are telling pollsters they are for Carson (or Carly) as they aren't ready to fully commit yet.

Anyway, look for my final update later this upcoming week and we'll see what happens for October - when things should really start heating up.

I wished I could tell you the number of followers I’ve blocked because they want to sell me 10,000 followers.

Twitter followers in general mean absolutely nothing. The purity of the list is much more important.

Trump still 3-1 over Snarly MTD and 2-1 since debate, but slowing...Awaiting the Morning Consult poll tomorrow to confirm what if any slide Trump is experiencing..Was at 32 last week...Total BS NBC poll today with the 6.5% MOE.

I agree that there is a lot of “noise” in these Twitter numbers. But by and large, real people do sign up for Twitter feeds of their favorite candidates. And so far, my results seem to line up pretty well with the polling data we are seeing.

Would like to make one note on the Democrat side. The follower growth of Joe Biden is rather lackluster despite all the media reports about him possible jumping into the race (thus my nickname for him). Elizabeth Warren, who shows no overt signs of running, is growing nearly twice the number of followers.

This tells me that the much trumpeted "public clamor" for Biden to get into the race might be overstated. I'm thinking that the Democratic establishment is trying to push Biden on their base because they are afraid of nominating a scandal-ridden Clinton or an out and out socialist next year. They are in quite a pickle.

OK. Some time ago I read that Hillary’s Facebook and Twitter accounts were bought in large numbers.

Not suggesting they are generally relative terms.

I spend too many hours on Twitter chasing unfiltered news, with some success. But I spend undesired time purging the idiots who want to sell me followers. I have about 6,000 real conservative followers at present. Don’t give a flip about those numbers. hee hee hee

I noticed that Carly’s Twitter momentum has already slowed in recent days. She did have that huge bump in the 5 days after the debate. On my month-end update, I’ll only look at the final four days.
