U.S. support for Syria rebels illegal, Putin says ahead of Obama meeting

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday branded U.S. support for rebel forces in Syria as illegal and ineffective, saying U.S.-trained rebels were leaving to join Islamic State with weapons supplied by Washington.

In an interview with U.S. networks recorded ahead of a meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama, Putin said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad deserved international support as he was fighting terrorist organizations.

Obama and Putin are scheduled to talk on Monday after Putin addresses the United Nations, although White House and Kremlin officials have disagreed on what the two leaders will discuss and even who initiated the meeting.

"In my opinion, provision of military support to illegal structures runs counter to the principles of modern international law and the United Nations Charter," he said in an excerpt of an interview with U.S. television networks CBS and PBS released by the Kremlin.

Russia has stepped up its military involvement in Syria in recent weeks, with U.S. officials accusing Moscow of sending combat aircraft, tanks and other equipment to help the Syrian army.

Russia's sudden military build-up this month in support of Assad and a refugee crisis that has spilled over from the region into Europe have lent new urgency to attempts to resolve the Syria conflict.

The new U.S. tack on Syria could bring together Russia, Saudi Arabia and countries such as Turkey and Qatar, which support Syrian opposition groups.

U.S.-Russian relations have slumped to a post-Cold War low over the Ukraine crisis, though the two sides shares concerns about the threat posed by Islamic State, while disagreeing on the approach.

Putin says Damascus should be included in international efforts to fight (IS), a demand the United States rejects, and he criticized U.S. plans to train up to 5,400 Syrian rebels to fight Islamic State.

US inept policy is funding, training, and arming ISIS. Now that Russia has shown up to star in the show, fighting age men from Syria and other impacted areas are overwhelming Europe. (do you believe in coincidence?) And meanwhile Stupid Susan in Sunday AM interviews is talking about the evils of Assad and Putin, who seem to be disintegrating some ISIS stongholds.

So, "screw" who? How about using the venom on those whose policies have brought Western Civilization to the brink?

I tend to agree with you. This training Syrian resistance or whatever you want to call them is a joke.

They just handed over their weapons and trucks to ISIS for safe passage.

Between the weapons taken in Iraq and now these, why doesn’t obama just sends them straight to ISIS.

I know what Putin is but if he is going to slaughter ISIS, good for him.

Obama letting hundreds of thousands of “refugees” into the country screws us either way though. I hate him.

I agree with Putin on this one. Why are we supplying weapons to ISIS and men. It has been revealed that those handful of trainees that we spent 500 million training just went back and joined Isis and took or weapons and trucks with them.
Also to those Rino hawks out there that jump to topple Assad— two questions for you. 1, What did Assad ever do to the United States? and 2. who do you propose take his place? ISIS?
I have a suggestion. Stay the hell out of it.

I don’t know that it’s illegal in the sense of laws citizens of nations operate under. To be illegal you must be a subject of an entity that enforces the law. Until the Obama regime the United States has been the world’s police. Obama has changed sides but he is still acting as the arbiter of right and wrong, or legal and illegal, if you will. But its Obama’s right and wrong and not the right and wrong of most Americans.

Putin would be correct if he pointed out dividing the extremist spectrum of Muslims into fine delineations is not logical. Calling one group moderate when they share members with and often morph into another group who are extremists is nothing short of crazy.

I almost wonder if support for ISIS (formerly the Syrian Rebels or Al-Qaeda) did this on purpose in order to make Russia look like the good guys and American the bad guys?

How can anyone in our military, CIA, FBI, DIA, NSA, etc... put up with this? This is the group of people that killed 3,000 Americans on September 11th, 2001 Good grief! How can anyone work with this group KNOWING THAT?

This is the equivalent of secretly supporting Japan right after Pearl Harbor.

It is, without a doubt, 100% treason.

Obama’s on the enemy’s side yet again _ as always. Putin will crush them instead of arming financing and training them like Obama does But I don’t think Russia will leave the eastern Mediterranean anytime soon. It’s been one of their topmost lstrategic goals for many years. A double loss for America. Ps: you haver heard a peep about the sixth fleet doing squat diddlily, have you? Putin is shrewd. He saw right through Obama’s smokescreen . Alas.

I agree.

I think with the size of force they have... They are planning on chasing ISIS into Iraq.

I bet if that happens, then watch Iran invade Iraq from the East.

The “ free Syrian army” seems to be choosing one of 3 options these days:

Collecting CIA pay checks for endless meetings in Turkish coffee houses

Collecting ISIS pay checks for reporting on CIA meetings in Turkish coffee houses

Buying Turkish bus and ferry tickets for Europe

I laughed when I read your response but it is actually very sad.

And why the HE!! is turkey still in NATO?

Ergodan invested in the 100 million dollar mosque in Maryland.

He kills Kurds fighting ISIS.

And he has an ally in the White House.

I bet muslims never DREAMED they’d have one of their own in charge of the great satan.

There is becoming less and less difference in the rule of Erdogan and the purported rule of Assad

Turkey is the skunk in the henhouse over there

Axis of islamocracy:
Obama , Turkey, Saudi Arabia and a few lesser luminaries probably best identified by their bank accounts than their nationalities
