school in central France has hailed back to the Middle Ages this week, after forcing Jewish and Muslim students who do not eat pork, as well as vegetarians, to wear red and yellow discs around their necks.
The Piedalloues primary school in Auxerre, in Burgundy, forced eighteen students to wear the discs, in order to ensure that cafeteria workers did not give them pork or meat.
The practice was withdrawn this week after outraged parents and local officials compared the practice to wearing yellow stars, as mandated by the Nazis, the Telegraph reports.
The mayor immediately ordered the practice be halted after one day, Christian Sautier, director of communications in the mayor’s office, confirmed.
“When we learned about it, we fell out of our chairs,” he added.
France has a long history of forcing Muslims and Jews to wear distinct garb. Along with the yellow star, the discs are perhaps most reminiscent of the "Jew hats" in Italy and France during the 11th and 12th centuries; the pointed caps were mandated by the Fourth Council of the Lateran of 1215.

The two attributes that stand out are the imposition by govt and addition of a an item of apparel to segegate people.
If you were a French Citizen who was Jewish, you actually had a good chance of surviving the war.
France had a lot of alien Jews whom they were more than happy to be shipped East to the “Family Camps” that the Germans told them they were going to.
Have three different colored food trays, one color for vegan slop, one color foe Halal/Kosher slop, and a third for regular slop. Then the students can choose whichever slop they want.
Ahhh.... a solution. But that misses the point of the disks.
what if they decide to sin? what if they decide to have a taste of bacon?

and note, I mostly despise the French, but let's stick to facts (And there are lots of FACTUAL reasons to despise them without having to resort to non-factual.. :)
Hence the dietary restrictions. Which are probably still well-advised 5000 years later in many third-world countries.
So only 82,000 lost their lives, ok. My point was about the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe which is on the rise, especially in France, but let’s just ignore that maybe it’ll go away. Oh right, Chamberlain did that before WW2 and it didn’t go away.

What? No separate but equal accommodations?
Actually, that is exactly what Jews and Muslims who are concerned about such things look for, and would not dream of leaving their respective observances of Kashrut/Halal in the care of a lunch lady. This measure is as unnecessary as it is offensive.
But they had no death camps in France. They handed them over to their ‘allies,’ who put them on trains going East.
The architecture and art remain. But they do not negate the fact that the bigotry and narrowness do, too. Christianity and Catholocism are no longer the carrier of this disease. The renaissance and reformation have cured them of it. But it is alive and spreading thanks to Islam and Communism of the school-boy socialist, OWS variety, both of whom make common cause with each other. The former is a political program disguised as a religion. The latter is a religiously held dogma disguised as a political program.
