John Boehners announced departure from Congress comes on the heels of a recent Gallup poll that found he was suffering some record low levels of voter approval a sad commentary that nonetheless flies in the face of some fawning reaction to his resignation.
Ryan said: John Boehner has been a great leader of the Republican Party and the House of Representatives. This was an act of pure selflessness. Johns decades of service have helped move our country forward and I deeply value his friendship.
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, meanwhile, whos a leading candidate to succeed Boehner, offered kind words for the speaker as well.
John has been a leader, mentor, and most of all friend throughout and I learned not only from his experience but also from his unshakeable faith and principles, McCarthy said, CNN reported. It takes profound humility to step down from a position of power and Johns depth of character is unmatched.

John is my Congressman here in SW Ohio. It will be nice seeing him out at Weatherington Golf Club more often. You can almost hit his house from the 10th tee but it requires a +300 yd carry. I’ve tried.
Dang, I skip FR for one day, and Boehner resigns? I better start taking more breaks from current events and the news (I don’t watch teevee or listen to radio).
I’m sure there’s a Boehner mini-me lined up, one loss from the ranks of the GOPe won’t derail the agenda (that sounds so marxist, it probably is).
Political selflessness is an oxymoron
Boehner was the king rat, all his rat buddies need to go too.
Sniveling idiot Mica is sad.
That sounds like a gay porn film.
Maybe they are talking about Lindsey Graham.
And Obama.
You Are 110% Right!!!
I've seen more "depth" out of a puddle in a Phoenix parking lot.
Jeb Bush, the leading pick for president among establishment Republicans, also put out a tweet:
John Boehner dedicated his life to public service. Bringing the Holy Father to Congress was a fitting cap to a great career.
And from Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus, came this:
He has been a tireless advocate for conservative principles who has raised millions to elect and re-elect Republicans to the House of Representatives. Our party owes him a great debt,
Another Ohioan weeper.
Wish Cornyn would take his example and quit too.
If McCarthy replaces him we’ve won nothing.
Boehner’s an ass. He was a useless Speaker, a pathetic piece of shxt much like the rest of so called leadership in Congress.
That would have been the more appropriate and accurate response.
Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, told Boehner off in proper Texas “And the horse you rode in on” style. It is a lot funnier if you speak Texan, in between the lines.
Hope he does not replace boner. Ryan, too. He stinks DNC globalist.
