A look at a map tells the story. If Hungary weren't aggressive about protecting their borders, they'd be overwhelmed by all the countries that encircle them. They even have a short border shared with western Ukraine, which according to some news reports a few months ago, was causing problems for ethnic Hungarians living in Ukraine and for the violence of Ukraine extending across the border.

Last thing they need is for Germany to dump hordes of fighting age Muslims into the mix.

If Germany is so eager for immigrants who will boost the population, why don’t they try and attract people who are skilled workers from modern, Western countries? Or non-Westerners who are civilized and work hard like the Chinese, Indians, and Vietnamese? I wish I lived in a rich, successful country that could (1) afford to build a border fence, and (2) could build that fence in just a few days. Looking back, the Berlin Wall went up incredibly quickly and then was reinforced to the point where it was nearly impossible to cross. That fence worked. I wonder why (1) we can’t afford to build a wall, and (2) a wall wouldn’t work if we built it.

Thank you - I was wondering what the length was as they seemed to be doing some speedy work.

Unfortunately for us, even if we ever got the will to build one, there'd be all kinds of "impact studies" and "environmental concerns" to be addressed.
