Donald Trump is in an all-out attack against a surging new rival — and he just fired back

Real-estate developer Donald Trump is now frequently attacking a presidential rival he mostly refrained from criticizing in the past: Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida).

During a Thursday morning CNN interview, Trump hit Rubio as a "kid" in a wide-ranging critique.

He first bashed Rubio's credibility as a foreign-policy wonk when asked to compare their knowledge about Syria.

"Marco Rubio sits behind a desk sometimes and he reads stuff," Trump said, according to CNN's transcript. "That's all he does. I create jobs all day long. I'll know more about all of this than all of them put together and believe me, we'll have a winning strategy. If Marco Rubio is good, how come we're doing so badly?"

Trump went on to dismiss the 44-year-old senator's age.

"These guys don't know how to win," he said. "Marco Rubio, he's like a kid. He shouldn't even be running in this race, as far as I'm concerned. He's a kid."

Later in the interview, Trump again called Rubio a "kid" and criticized him for not deferring his candidacy to Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor.

"He's a kid. He has no right — I mean, frankly, he was very disloyal to Bush," Trump said. "Bush was his mentor. And everyone said he'd never run because Bush was his mentor. Well, the fact that Bush was his mentor didn't stop this young guy who is overly ambitious from wanting to run. Now Bush looks foolish and he looks like he's a very disloyal guy, frankly."

Earlier in the day during a "Morning Joe" interview, Trump also mocked Rubio for perspiring during last week's presidential debate.

Yeah, I remember that line from Lloyd Bentsen....was watching the debate when it happened.

In 1988, I was a registered Demon Rat....and frankly, even I thought that the line was unfair.

A few years later, I quit the Demon Rat party.

Nice, it seems Trump is teaching our gutless wonders how to fight back!

Yeah just wait until they achieve his girl slapping mode.

Since Rubio and Bush can’t walk and chew gum at the same time when they are in stage with Trump, I’d settle for seeing what they stand for in written form as a comparison

If they have the nerve to publish their positions on major issues without having to go by polls

and if they were intelligible and unambiguous

You are still objecting to Trump’s position papers only because you say he “probably hasn’t read them”. Have you? What substance there do you disagree with?

If the ENTIRE US MEDIA and republican establishment wasnt attacking Trump every single day over trivia, maybe there would be an opportunity to hear him discuss these issues!

You seem to have fixed and unchangeable ideas about Donald Trump, and will therefore will always find a way to convince yourself, if not others, that you are right

enjoy the rest of the campaign, and let us know when Marco Rubio says anything in a speech or interview that anyone might remember and take inspiration from, anything that shows him as a world class leader that will be respected, accomplishes anything in the US Senate, or when he even shows up to vote on a tough issue!

Never fall in love with a politician (including yours) for they’ll disappoint you every time.

I am surprised that Trump hasn’t made fun of Rubio’s looks, or the way he talks, or something petty. Because Trump is “Kindergarten Awesomeness.”

I’m really talking more from a spiritual aspect. The Holy Spirit inside of me would tell me if someone is not who they appear to be. You can call it feelings, but I call it spiritual discernment coupled with what God gave me - feelings and a conscience.

Many people have changed their minds about things. I used to be a Democrat and pro-choice. But guess what, God woke me up!

There is something about Rubio I don’t trust.

Could it be the fact that he's a proven liar who plays the race card against conservatives as soon as it becomes convenient?

He should knock if off about the age thing. TR and JFK were young.

Yeah but Trump has great instincts and he nails Rubio by calling him a "kid". He DOES seem like a kid. Like "Look, I want to play with big kids" kind of attitude.

He's clean, handsome, well dressed, young Senator, cute family and kids,
and (wait for it) LATINO! (ding ding ding)

A Cuban JFK! (without the sex addictions we will hope)

lets make him leader of the free world that Obama will leave behind in smoldering chaos

what can go possibly wrong?

If you had ever sat in a committee hearing you wouldn’t be so quick to assume that Rubio is knowledgeable just because he’s on Foreign Relations and the SSCI. I had to brief Nancy Pelosi (sans staffers) on some classified issues when she was the Ranking Member of the HPSCI (House Intelligence Committee) and I was shocked at how little she understood what I was briefing her on.

Members of the House and Senate - even the “good” ones - are generalists, not experts. With VERY few exceptions, the brains in the committees are the senior staffers, not the members. Staffers write the questions and coach members through hearings. I’ll admit that Rubio is articulate and very well prepared, but I strongly suspect that some more specific and more focused questions would trip him up badly.

The only thing this guy does is run his mouth and drink water. Oh and throw footballs to himself.

That’s it. Not one thing else.

Rubio is pretty much hated here.

Yeb! isn’t really hated as he was considered to be a good governor, but despite that, it doesn’t seem that many around here are considering him for president.

I don’t know how it is for him in south florida, but up here on the Redneck Riviera, it looks like a no go for him.

Well he’s mostly clean, except for when he sweats like a pig, then he’s pretty much all icky.

"I'm looking at guys like Marco Rubio, who has the worst voting record in the United States Senate. And [he's a] young guy — although he sweats more than any young person I've ever seen in my life," Trump said. "I've never seen a guy down water like he downs water. They bring it in in buckets for this guy."

Just read this quote too...again Trump does something nobody else does. It LOOKS like an insult...but it's not. What it does is reinforce a truth. He DOES sweat and he DOES drink a lot of water in public. That's because he's NERVOUS in public. The unspoken message is "Do we want someone who gets THIS nervous in pressure situations to be our President?"

To: Freedom of Speech Wins

To a degree, I agree. This is the primary and Trump has much more than the normal media bias stacked against him. He is trying to eliminate competition...actually he is trying to annihilate it. Politics is dirty...no, we don’t like it, but that is the way it has always been...read some of the campaign tit for tat between Adams and Jefferson. As far as Fiorina, I don’t know who you’ve been watching, she is not likeable. She is certainly knowledgeable and has good command of the issues, but is not.

as far as likeability, we’re past the point of looking for a “nice” candidate. We need a candidate that is going to kick some a*s and get things done and right the ship. A generation of kindler/gentler and then 7yrs of Obama has put us in a pretty tough position.
