Hold on to your toupees, the conservative intellectuals are in a stew.
Trumps rambunctious presence in the race is responsible for a miracle. The conservative intellectuals have finally thrown in with the left intellectuals. Both disrelish Trump, and, if truth be known, they are not very happy with Carson or Fiorina, who with Trump account for over 50 percent of the Republican vote. A year ago these three would be sitting in the politicians audience.
How is it that Trump anticipates the issues better than the establishment politicians? Well, despite his fortune, Trump is a regular American. I think a lot of Americans recognize this. The best of America is like Trump, optimistic, self-confident, energetic, can-do, and they enjoy a good laugh. Trump has made running for political office fun again, much as Ronald Reagan made running for office fun again after the lugubrious Jimmy Carter. Reagan spoke of Morning in America. Trump has trademarked Make America Great Again.
How is Trump going to do when the voting begins? I can see him getting at a minimum 25 percent of the vote going into the convention, maybe more. It depends on his ability to develop an organization to get out the vote, his continued anticipation of issues, and his continued ability to address them boldly. If he succeeds, as I think he will, he will have a strong hand to play in the convention. I suspect his strongest opponent will be Jeb Bush, but Carson and Fiorina will also be candidates to reckon with. Then the players will sit down and cut a deal, but remember they will be dealing with the billionaire who wrote The Art of the Deal. I am looking forward to an exciting summer in 2016.

I am so disgusted with the GOP that even Mickey Mouse would get my vote if he decided to enter the campaign. We definitely need someone from the outside who is NOT a politician and thus far I see Trump as the one this country needs at this time in our history. Carson and Fiorina are not made of the cloth this country MUST HAVE to turn this ship around and resume our greatness.
Rubio may not be the most principled among the GOP candidates, but one thing he definitely has going for him is that he’s a superb speaker and will play well with a lot of young voters.
So in states with funky rules where the winner gets x at large delegates plus delegates for each county won, it's still likely Trump takes most of the delegates that way.
Moreover, if Trump is the deal maker I think he is, he certainly won't wait til the convention to make his deal with Cruz and Carson.
“What we really need to do around here is to shoot a few more intellectuals” - Nikita Kruschev
“I can see Rubio taking more states than any of the others.”
Rubio’s position on immigration is what is taking out Jeb!.
No. He said he would accept money from small donors. He said it again in the Interview with Senator Scott.
“It is incorrect to say the GOPe does not like Carly. She is plenty liberal enough for them. She has a few conservative issues, like abortion.”
Yea, by liberal radar started activating when I read that too. I’m also not sure they hate Carson that much, as they know they will be able to later roll him, as he appears (at least to me) like someone that has not taken the time to really learn the issues well enough to have solid positions on them, when faced with with an onslaught of GOP ‘advisers’ (most of them gay, by the way) telling him he’s wrong.
But even given the above, it has to scare the crap out of The Establishment when he predicts Trump getting at least 25% of the Republican vote. They are just CLUELESS as to the level of anger out here.
“I can see Rubio taking more states than any of the others.”
It depends if Trump lets him, given that HORRIFIC Senate Amnesty bill that Rubio nearly got into law. I kind of doubt that Trump will give him a free pass on it, it’s a hanging curve ball, and Trump doesn’t miss too many of them.
The only hope for Rubio is that Trump is not really running to win the nomination - I don’t see that being the case, but it is Rubio’s only hope.
“Rubio may not be the most principled among the GOP candidates, but one thing he definitely has going for him is that hes a superb speaker and will play well with a lot of young voters.”
I will say that his announcement speech about the American dream and related material certainly sucked Rush in (I cannot even think of any other candidate that managed to pull something like that off on Rush) - it was almost like Rush forgot that he spent nearly a year trying to stop RUBIO’S Senate Amnesty bill from passing. And I’ve seen Rush slip on Rubio once in a while since then.
Hopefully, though, Trump doesn’t take the bait and NAILS Rubio for his horrific actions in the Senate.
Did you forget to add the /s?
Rubio comes across like a Mormon missionary. His natural constituency is old-fashioned grannies.
quote “How is Trump going to do when the voting begins? I can see him getting at a minimum 25 percent of the vote going into the convention”
Not long ago that might have been true.
But the GOPe changed all the rules to try to push their butt boy Jeb and those exact changes will hand the nomination to Trump.
In case you missed it, the changes are a LOT of states that used to apportion delegates proportionally now are winner take all. This whole race will be over on March 15 when Florida given ALL of its delegates to Trump.
WE are not going into a brokered convention. There will be a primary winner going into the convention. I hope its Donald Trump.
I was thinking more of politicians - people like Patrick Moynihan... but you're right. We have quite a few on our side... Sowell, Hanson, Greenfield, Coulter, Malkin... many many others... I was wrong...
If Trump remains in the 25-30% neighborhood, that could be hard to do.
I did not. (I just got home from work and dinner with family in the last hour since my post this morning.)
Thanks 9422WMR.
HOORAY Trump
Yes, Trump is destined to be the President of the United States.
I haven't felt this sure since the summer of 1980. When "Sailing" by Christopher Cross became the number one song.
