Until her surge in the polls and a critically acclaimed performance in the most recent debate, Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina had limited trouble selling her tenure as CEO of Hewlett-Packard as the foundation of her case to occupy the Oval Office.
-snip-
It was Fiorinas failed leadership that brought her company down. After an unsuccessful attempt to catch up to IBMs growth in IT services by buying PricewaterhouseCoopers consulting business (PwC, ironically, ended up going to IBM instead), she abruptly abandoned the strategic goal of expanding IT services and consulting and moved into heavy metal. At a time that devices had become a low margin commodity business, Fiorina bought for $25 billion the dying Compaq computer company, which was composed of other failed businesses. Unsurprisingly, the Compaq deal never generated the profits Fiorina hoped for, and HPs stock price fell by half. The only stock pop under Fiorinas reign was the 7 percent jump the moment she was fired following a unanimous board vote. After the firing, HP shuttered or sold virtually all Fiorina had bought.

I hated working with hp and compaq computers.
Sure she can. She has a bunch of Freepers swearing offshoring is patriotic and the board, not her leadership/failed gambles, tanked Lucent and HP both.
If she wrecked her companies, maybe she can do the same thing for the federal government!
As an aside. A friend of mine brought his HP to me. This was several years ago, btw.
I opened it up and couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Compaq "guts" in an HP case.
Problem was the MB was fried.
Little electrolytics were in the bottom of the case. MB got so hot the solder melted.
lol
She could if she was a dem. They’re pretty good at rewriting stuff.
Those printers (which I bought at a yard sale for ten bucks) were the suckiest thing I ever saw!
Cartridge mismatch -— cartridge mismatch -— cartridge mismatch etc etc etc etc etc
I have a Brother unit now (and have for about the last two years) and I an MUCH happier with it!
It’s been said that Carly has a degree in history and a degree in business. She made Lucent and the best parts of HP history.
She IS a Dem. Calling herself R doesn’t hide her actions well.
In all fairness, Cisco was the major market holder for routers, VPN devices, etc..., but the Lucent Ascend products were MUCH better! However, just like the HP devices, they never did any kind of business sales and really thought that companies were going to bum-rush them to purchase their “better” products.
Same thing happened to Banyan Vines network software; FAR better networking design, performance, maintenance, EVERYTHING, than Microsoft. But, Microsoft was out selling, selling, selling!
Bottom line, HP/Lucent/Banyan thought “build a better mouse trap, the world will beat a path to your door” was a working business model - IT AIN”T!!
The HP devices we had were good, but they were not the best, and their sales and customer service SUCKED! That is why GTE (now Verizon) left them. We tried to stay with the Lucent/Ascend routers, but Bell Atlantic (the other half of Verizon) refused to replace their devices and instead forced GTE to downgrade to Cisco products.
We in the IT department were telling the Ascend sales force that this was happening, and they refused to come to Boston to help us show Bell Atlantic the advantages. Cisco had eight people in the office to attempt to disproves our results (they never did), but Bell Atlantic even asked, “Why isn’t Lucent here?”
Her leadership cost HP investors billions. Its more likely she'd do the same to US taxpayers while government will bumble & fumble serenely on.
You beat me to it....
Actually, I thought that Compaq computers were pretty good at the time that HP bought them. HP, not so much, and less so now.
Some people think it was a culture clash between TX and CA. Before Compaq and Fiorina, HP bought DEC, but although DEC had a few technical bright spots still, it was mostly for the customer base.
Now these, _after_ her tenure, were ABSOLUTELY idiotic:
EDS-dying company, consisting mostly of a rapidly aging good old boy sales force, good at taking 40+ year old government managers to strip bars, backed up with the least capable and least expensive technical people.
3Com -second rate technology, on a downward trend before they were bought.
Palm -Considering limited resources, good in their time, but never had a chance vs. the big boys. Might have developed into something if properly managed and funded.
Autonomy - you’ve got to be kidding. How this got past due diligence, particularly TECHNICAL due diligence, I have no idea.
The above are just my opinions.
Lol! Just cause you run as one doesn’t mean you are one.
LOL.. I never thought of it that way, bring her in to destroy the government like she did HP..
Under Secretariat’s leadership HP stock fell 55%. Hope Trump pounds this until she knows she has been ridden hard and put away wet.
OH PLEASE - the job here is to PROP HER UP, at least for the Jeb Bush supporters. Otherwise he may get ‘stuck’ (as they see it) with Trump.
What really disturbed me about Carly in the debate was her trying to grab sympathy for having buried a child to drug addiction.
This is a gross deception. The child was Lori Fiorino, her step-daughter. The girl lived full-time with her mother after her parents divorce when she was ten. Im sure Carly did forge a relationship with her step-daughter, but she did NOT raise the girl.
Second, the step-daughter died when she was 34 or 35 from alcohol and prescription drug abuse. Of course, it was a tragedy, but that was not the impression Carly was creating.
Carlys claim that she buried a child to drug addiction creates the false impression that her own child died from illegal drugs in high school or college. This was a blatant attempt at manipulation with misleading statements. I cannot respect her for taking us for fools.
A more accurate claim would be I buried my stepchild, my husband Franks daughter, to drug addiction, when she was in her thirties.
But that would not have had the effect she wanted. She really showed a lack of respect for both Lori and her bio-mother.
