Carly Fiorina made several false, misleading and unsubstantiated claims in responding to questions about Hewlett-Packard’s involvement with a foreign subsidiary that sold products in Iran.
The former HP CEO claimed that a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation “proved that neither I nor anyone else in management knew about” a Hewlett-Packard subsidiary doing business in Iran. We have found no such ruling from the SEC, nor could Fiorina’s campaign provide one.
She also claimed that the company that actually sold HP products in Iran was “not honest” with HP about its dealings. But that company said in a 2003 press release that its relationship with HP had begun in 1997 to focus on “one market — Iran.”
Fiorina said “it’s impossible to ensure that nothing wrong ever happens” in such a large company, which she said had “a larger budget than any one of our 50 states.” That’s incorrect. California and New York had larger budgets in fiscal year 2005, which was Fiorina’s last with HP.
We can’t say what Fiorina knew about an HP subsidiary’s dealings in Iran and when she knew it. But the company defended the subsidiary’s sales to Iran in a 2009 letter to the SEC — three years after Fiorina had left the company — saying such sales by a foreign subsidiary weren’t subject to the law governing U.S. companies.

Why attack the “messenger”?
BECAUSE the “messenger” is attempting to use its own “credibility” to DISCREDIT Fiorina.
Did the “messenger” report the fine levied against HP for violating the Iran Trade ban? No? Why not? Could it be because there was no fine? Because there was NO WRONGDOING?
But THAT would spoil the “messenger’s” pro-Hillary “narrative”, wouldn’t it?
Let’s not wear ourselves out by jumping at every piece of red-meat tossed our way by Hillary’s friends...

A slightly more credible source.
Fiorina’s claims raise legitimate issues. If she didn’t know that her company was engaged in distributor end-runs around sanctions then that says something about her willingness to be kept in the dark OR her cover-your-ass mentality.
I don’t want another “I have no idea what my staff are up to” President.
Please allow me to push-back using Hillary’s standard defense: “It was never PROVED...”
That works for Hillary. Why shouldn’t it work for Carly?
Somewhere, there may be CEO’s who audit the books of all the independent distributors used by all the foreign subsidiaries of all their domestic operations.
But I don’t know of any...
Sorry, I hold Republicans to a higher standard than Hillary. (Hell, I hold my dog to a higher standard).
Fiorina praised sales of technology into Iran. During her tenure, the Iran distributor in question was named distributor of the year. Did she—or should she have— audited the books of every HP distributor? Obviously not. But she clearly knew what was going on because she was PRAISING the work of this company in Iran.
Do I expect the President to know what the forrest service is doing in every county? No. But I DO expect the President to know what that service is doing in a California county that catches fire every summer for three years running.
Carly is not my first choice for President but I don’t want to see ANY solid conservative destroyed by lies and innuendo as Democrats like to do.
I remember well that Harry Reid lied about Romney’s tax returns — and then bragged afterwards: “We WON, didn’t we?” Reid is one filthy animal...
So my first instinct here is to NOT pile on when Democrats make loud but weakly-supported “claims” about Republicans.
We now know that HP sold printers in Europe through a subsidiary based in the Netherlands. That subsidiary sold printers to a separate company based in the Netherlands, which shipped them to its branch in Dubai. The greedy merchants in Dubai then sold “some” of those printers to buyers from Iran. It seems clear that the claim that HP “awarded” some “honor” to its Iranian office is fiction.
So, unless Carly was a mind-reader, I don’t see how she could have known all this. Of course, you are free to disagree with me, but the folks assigned to enforce the Iran Ban seem to agree with me — and with her.
I expect that Harry Reid will be “on her case” any day now...
