Watching is never illegal.
Providing the content may be.

Do sports bars pay a special fee to show games to the public for profit?

“Of course ESPN is an outlier. With a $6.10 subscriber fee (paid by cable companies) ESPN is far and away the most expensive network.”

Where are you going to get the Internet from? The ISP fairy?

Don't get me wrong, I've been cable free for 2 years and stream all of my entertainment with a Roku 3 player. For local stuff, I have an HD antennae.

But I'm still forking over $50/month for internet service - through the evil cable company.

I have one PC hardwired and get 150+ using any internet speedtest. I get about 90 on my wireless laptop. Brighthouse claims to have a test run in FL of 300mbps and said it would be here in CA soon. My bundled phone, used mostly as a fax, cable with sportspacs, no movies and hi speed net costs me about $165/mo. Oh, I have XM Radio and smartphone too. I am far too connected.

Something's wrong with that figure. When Dish offers ESPN and other popular channels for $29.99 per month, that only leaves $23.89 for Dish to pay several other channels and then realize its own profit. It just doesn't work from a profit and loss point. - Or ESPN and others might take a lesser fee when included in these one and two year introductory offers. And ESPN still sells ads so the fee is not their only source of revenue.

Of course, most channels are paid nothing and do sales jobs have to cable and satellite providers include their channels in a package.

A handful of companies control almost all of the non-premium cable content- NBC Universal, Disney, Time Warner, Viacom, Discovery. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cable_and_satellite_television_networks.

Can't remember the last tv news I saw. Do they still do that?

And when "news" comes on radio, like during Rush, I feel like they're vomiting their agenda all over me so I turn them off.

Check out One America News. They offer streaming for $5 or so a month. Conservative news network, unlike Faux news.

Racing. NASCAR offers a streaming service as well.
Documentaries. There are enough on youtube to choke a horse.

Anything else?

If they’re charging you more for hi speed, you probably don’t need it. I have basic cable. Haven’t had a problem streaming yet. Just hook in direct to your cable modem; don’t use wi-fi.
