Less than a year after being elected to lead the oldest state agency in Texas, Land Commissioner George P. Bush has dramatically remade the General Land Office by ousting most of its longtime leaders and replacing many with people with ties to his campaign and family.

Eleven of the top 18 officials on the agency’s organizational chart a year ago have been fired or forced out or have quit, and more could leave soon in an overhaul that Bush has described as a “reboot.”

In their place, Bush, a former Fort Worth resident, has given top jobs to two of his law school classmates, two relatives of members of two Bush presidential administrations and at least three others with ties to the family or other political leaders.

In all, Bush has hired at least 29 people who worked on his campaign or have political connections, according to a review of thousands of pages of personnel records. The agency did not advertise any of the openings publicly.

Sounds like his main purpose is to put the agency into the Bushes’ pocket.

Why is anyone surprised, this is how the Bush family works. They spread the graft around.

I didn’t support George P, and I’d like to smack my fellow Texans who did up aside the head. Carpetbagger.

Gives new meaning to the phrase Bushwhacked!

it’s called stacking the deck so no one on his team rats him out. Typical Bush / Clinton scared of their shadow political ploy.

“W” cashed in on the Texas Stadium Deal, Neil Bush fleeced people with the Silverado Savings deal and his Moo Cow software garbage, JEB!! has taken money from the money guys in New York through Florida government and from the moslem Arabs, Barbara Bush sticks her hands in all sorts of things and so has H.W. The Bush family sits on boards for money , they get insider or first run stock from various corporations in return for their government connections and at times have been involved in various pump and dump schemes. Anyone that knows anyone in Houston knows this. Barbara Bush is especially odd when it comes to thinking that all government bank accounts are Bush bank accounts. She tried to force the Houston Independent School District to buy Neil’s crap software using an earmarked donation they made to the Katrina fund to prime the pump to shake down the government. Neil, by the way, had ties to some nasty Russians back then.

The only good thing about the Bush family is that if it is in their interest they are always willing to send you a nice thank you card after the fact.

It was not typical when W got to be POTUS. Part of his “less than stellar” POTUS was because he was too nice a guy and did not replace all of klintoons cronies, who rapidly set about to make W look bad.

He’s toned it down. Here is a sample of his earlier days.

Sounds like the policies of a ‘Rat or Boss Hogg.

I always thought that cutting heads and cutting budget was a "Conservative" trademark........I guess I was wrong.......

For what it's worth, his actions regarding his appointments are SOP for the position he just took over........

It's apparent you don't like Bush's and that's fine with me. But don't let your ignorance cloud the fiscal responsibility of George P.'s actions...........

Sounds like the whole office should be layed off 4 years out of five.
