State media report gunmen have kidnapped four people, including two Canadians and a Norwegian, from a resort in the southern Philippines.
The official Philippines news agency reports the abductions took place Monday evening at the Oceanview Resort on Samal Island.
...
The three foreigners are male, and the Norwegian is the manager of the resort.
The southern Philippines has been plagued by unrest involving Islamist militants in recent years, including the taking of foreign hostages.

Careful with that acronym.
This follows an alleged peace settlement in which the guerrillas were supposed to disarm but did not. This is what happens with any significant Muslim population.
Kidnapped by “Gunmen” as further description of the perps was unavailable, and furthermore was definitely not related to islam
How about MILK.

Here’s a tip if you ever want to visit the Philippines, island of Mindanao (also termed the group of islands known as Mindanao).
Go to Manilla, Cebu, Bohol, or other places that encourage tourism. These areas are full of wonderfully friendly people with a long Christian (Catholic I think) history. Mindanao is predominately Muslim and has active terrorist training camps, it is not safe for a white person. Being white there paints a big target on you. Being any shade of brown takes the bullseye off of you, but you still run a risk with kidnappers, pirates, and other extremist groups.
I loved my trip to the Philippines and would recommend it to anyone, just take the advice above and avoid Mindanao and you’ll be fine.
Maybe the moozlums are lonely and just want to have a peaceful party with them.
Southern Philippines ... Canadian tourists ... for some reason many Canadians who travel overseas don’t seem to possess the common sense gene that informs one to avoid backwater locales mentioned in dozens of reports of bombings, kidnappings, and general atrocities over the past couple years. They seem to think smiling and saying “Hey, we know we look and sound just like Americans. But we’re Canadians and don’t like them any more than you do. Eh?” will result in a free pass and hand shakes all ‘round.
This will make our Imam-in-Chief smile.
Davao City is one of the safest cities in the world.
Mayor Duterte doesn’t put up with any criminal bs.
Likely MILF or Abu Sayyif. Both are usually found further South in the Sulu sea and the usually don’t venture this far North.
Canada Ping!
There are a couple of inaccuracies in the news about this event.
First, this is not a resort but a marina, one of the very few in the Philippines. Built a couple of years ago, it has seen a steady growth since then with now approximately 55 boats in it. The boats are from Australia, USA, Malaysia and some European countries.
The gunmen were discovered by the yard manager (norwegian) who was in the toilets of the clubhouse. By going outside to see what the noise was, he was abducted by the gunmen.
They then targeted the boats at the beginning of the pontoons, starting with the estern pontoon and trying to abduct a couple on their boat (canadian and japanese). The couple was able to fight them off and escaped by jumping in the water after sustaining injuries.
A man (canadian) who was rushing to their help when he heard them shouting was abducted.
On the western pontoon, the gunmen abducted a couple (canadian and filipina) on their boat.
The gunmen fled with their hostages using local outrigger boats. Apparently they took a northern path towards Compostela Valley.
At this moment the police has no clue about the identity of the kidnappers.
For those who are interested, there are copies of a CCTV video on Youtube.
