Ted Cruz on Walker Drop-Out: ‘Holy Cow’
National Review ^ | September 21, 2015 | Joel Gehrke

Posted on 09/21/2015 8:08:20 PM PDT by Isara

Wisconsin governor Scott Walker’s reported decision to drop out of the Republican presidential primary shocked at least one rival.

“Holy cow,” Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas) replied when he learned that Walker plans to end his bid for the White House. As recently as April, a Cruz ally was predicting that Walker would make a strong bid in the Texas primary. Walker led the field there in February.

The New York Times reports that Walker will make the announcement at a 6 p.m. news conference in Madison, Wics. “The short answer is money,” a Walker ally said explaining the decision. “He’s made a decision not to limp into Iowa.”

The Washington Post reported last week that Walker’s donors were getting nervous and wanted him to shake up his campaign staff. “Many backers have directed their ire at campaign manager Rick Wiley, who some Walker supporters believe expanded the staff too quickly and has failed to calibrate spending during the summer fundraising season,” according to the report. “A recent count put the number of full-time Walker campaign staff at around 90, and there have been no cutbacks in salaries as there were earlier this summer in former Florida governor Jeb Bush’s operation.”

The New Delhi Times has reported increased usage of free range bovine creatures in India as unwitting terrorist tools.

The tactic is to push a small, powerful, remotely triggered explosive device down a sacred cows throat, into it's stomach. Then; when the animal walks near the intended target; the device is activated; exploding with great damage, death and destruction about a wide area.

Recent headlines have screamed that this new wave of terrorism is simply...

ABOMINABLE!

Apparently those fine young men didn't get the memo about the skinny black ties.

Office of First President & Living Prophet®:

July 1st, 2011

The message for this month is -

I know how proud you ALL must be that we have TWO of our own in the pipeline to be President of this great country of OURS!

I know that there seems to be problems with both of these fine gentlemen (Oh for a WORTHY man to enter the race.  Yes; I said MAN!) but these can be easily overcome.

They've been taking a beating on the Internet - especially from those hateful ANTIs on FreeRepublic!

As in the past, if we can label their detractors as Religious Bigots, then our work is nearly over.  If they waste their time defending themselves from that charge, we'll be able to gloss over the other minor imperfections that these men have.

As ever, remember that our adversaries will be confounded in due time.  (D&C 71)

Tommy

Your posting history clearly shows it.

Speaking of bigotry; have you ever read much about what many Mormon leaders have proclaimed over the years?

Orson Pratt proclaimed: "Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the 'whore of Babylon' whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent" (The Seer, p. 255).

Questions put to Joseph Smith: "'Do you believe the Bible?' [Smith:]'If we do, we are the only people under heaven that does, for there are none of the religious sects of the day that do'. When asked 'Will everybody be damned, but Mormons'? [Smith replied] 'Yes, and a great portion of them, unless they repent, and work righteousness." (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 119).
Joseph Smith: "for the teachers of religion of the different sects understood the same passages of scripture so differently as to destroy all confidence in settling the question by an appeal to the Bible" (from Pearl of Great Price 1:12). "What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p.270).

Brigham Young stated this repeatedly: "When the light came to me I saw that all the so-called Christian world was grovelling in darkness" (Journal of Discourses 5:73); "The Christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of God" (Journal of Discourses 8:171); "With a regard to true theology, a more ignorant people never lived than the present so-called Christian world" (Journal of Discourses 8:199); "And who is there that acknowledges [God's] hand? ...You may wander east, west, north, and south, and you cannot find it in any church or government on the earth, except the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" (Journal of Discourses , vol. 6, p.24); "Should you ask why we differ from other Christians, as they are called, it is simply because they are not Christians as the New Testament defines Christianity" (Journal of Discourses 10:230).

Orson Pratt also said: "This great apostasy commenced about the close of the first century of the Christian era, and it has been waxing worse and worse from then until now" (Journal of Discourses , vol.18, p.44) and: "But as there has been no Christian Church on the earth for a great many centuries past, until the present century, the people have lost sight of the pattern that God has given according to which the Christian Church should be established, and they have denominated a great variety of people Christian Churches, because they profess to be ...But there has been a long apostasy, during which the nations have been cursed with apostate churches in great abundance" (Journal of Discourses , 18:172).

President John Taylor stated: "Christianity...is a perfect pack of nonsense...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century." (Journal of Discourses , vol. 6, p.167); "Where shall we look for the true order or authority of God? It cannot be found in any nation of Christendom." (Journal of Discourses , 10:127).

James Talmage said: "A self-suggesting interpretation of history indicates that there has been a great departure from the way of salvation as laid down by the Savior, a universal apostasy from the Church of Christ". (A Study of the Articles of Faith, p.182).

President Joseph Fielding Smith said: "Doctrines were corrupted, authority lost, and a false order of religion took the place of the gospel of Jesus Christ, just as it had been the case in former dispensations, and the people were left in spiritual darkness." (Doctrines of Salvation, p.266). "For hundreds of years the world was wrapped in a veil of spiritual darkness, until there was not one fundamental truth belonging to the place of salvation ...Joseph Smith declared that in the year 1820 the Lord revealed to him that all the 'Christian' churches were in error, teaching for commandments the doctrines of men" (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 3, p.282).

More recent statements by apostle Bruce McConkie are also very clear: "Apostasy was universal...And this darkness still prevails except among those who have come to a knowledge of the restored gospel" (Doctrines of Salvation, vol 3, p.265); "Thus the signs of the times include the prevailing apostate darkness in the sects of Christendom and in the religious world in general" (The Millennial Messiah, p.403); "a perverted Christianity holds sway among the so-called Christians of apostate Christendom" (Mormon Doctrine, p.132); "virtually all the millions of apostate Christendom have abased themselves before the mythical throne of a mythical Christ whom they vainly suppose to be a spirit essence who is incorporeal uncreated, immaterial and three-in-one with the Father and Holy Spirit" (Mormon Doctrine, p.269); "Gnosticism is one of the great pagan philosophies which antedated Christ and the Christian Era and which was later commingled with pure Christianity to form the apostate religion that has prevailed in the world since the early days of that era." (Mormon Doctrine, p.316).

President George Q. Cannon said: "After the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized, there were only two churches upon the earth. They were known respectively as the Church of the Lamb of God and Babylon. The various organizations which are called churches throughout Christendom, though differing in their creeds and organizations, have one common origin. They all belong to Babylon" (Gospel Truth, p.324).

President Wilford Woodruff stated: "the Gospel of modern Christendom shuts up the Lord, and stops all communication with Him. I want nothing to do with such a Gospel, I would rather prefer the Gospel of the dark ages, so called" (Journal of Discourses , vol. 2, p.196).

All you need to do is look like you're 20, be skinny and very well groomed, wear a white shirt, black pants and a tie (apparently skinny and black is no longer a requirement) and ride a bike around.

Sigh; all this back and forth about appearances.

There are certain things you DO to be a True Mormon Missionary...

The Rules

  1. Learn and obey all missionary rules.
  2. Keep your thoughts, words, and actions in harmony with the gospel message.
  3. Read only books, magazines, and other material authorized by the Church.
  4. Don't debate or argue.
  5. Center your mind on your mission.
  6. Dress conservatively. Elders: white shirts, conservative ties, and business suits. Sisters: conservative colors and skirts that cover your knees. No floor-length skirts or dresses.
  7. Cut your hair regularly.
  8. Keep your hair clean and neatly combed at all times in the approved style.
  9. Be neat and clean.
  10. Bathe frequently.
  11. Use deodorant.
  12. Polish your shoes.
  13. Iron your shirt and business suit.
  14. Arise at 6:30 A.M.
  15. Study for 2 hours every morning.
  16. Proselytize for 10 hours between 9:30 A.M. and 9:30 P.M.
  17. Turn off your lights at 10:30 P.M.

  22. Attend Sunday priesthood or Relief Society meetings, Sunday School, and sacrament meeting.
  23. Attend the general session of Stake Conference.
  24. Attend general conference broadcasts if available.
  25. Avoid all other church meetings unless you have a special assignment or are brining an investigator.
  26. Proselytize as much as possible on weekends and holidays because this is when you'll find people home.
  27. End your preparation day at 6:00 P.M. and proselytize from 6:00 P.M. to 9:30 P.M.
  28. Wear your missionary uniform in public on preparation day while not engaged in recreational activities.
  29. Arise at 6:30 on preparation day and study for 2 hours from the approved books.

  31. Write to your parents every week on preparation day.
  32. Write less frequently to your siblings, friends, and acquaintances.

  74. Frequently study with your companion the Missionary Guide section on companions.

  105. Do not say or write anything bad about the political and cultural circumstances where you serve.
  106. Do not become involved in adoption proceedings.

Kind friends as here I stand to sing, So very queer I feel, That now I've made my bow I fear, I don't look quite genteel, But never mind, for I'm a boy. Who's always full of joy, A brave and ready sort of chap, An honest Mormon boy...

He does look real young and he speaks softly. Am I a criminal for saying that?

A criminal, no just either ignorant or a liar, since neither is true, unless you are not referring to Scott Walker.

I always thought it was weird having some 19 year old introduce himself as ‘elder’ something-or-other. I mean, the only people he was elder than were high schoolers.

Or maybe you thought it was weird because you are ignorant. In the LDS Church, "elder" is considered the introductory—or lowest—office of the Melchizedek priesthood. Every person who receives the Melchizedek priesthood is simultaneously ordained to the office of elder; this may be done to male members who are at least 18 years old. In order to be ordained, the member must be determined to be worthy by his local bishop and stake president.

No, he looks about45-50 years old, that's middle-aged, not young, much less, not even close to a teenager. You'd have to be fairly stupid to think that he looks younger than his sons.

I can’t count the number of commercials where mothers and daughters are said to look like sisters because of something: oil of olay, this or that treatment, etc.

I can’t count the number of commercials where they used actors and actresses, but I can count the number of commercials where I’ve never seen a balding mother that looked her daughter’s sister. ;-)
