The Trouble with Kids Today (it's all about IQ after all)
The Federalist ^ | 9/19/15 | Murray

Posted on 09/19/2015 12:08:13 PM PDT by pabianice

...IQ has a substantial direct correlation with measures of success in life, and it is also correlated with a variety of other characteristics that promote success...

...It’s not just that the IQ gap in working-class and upper-middle-class communities has gotten wider. The life penalties associated with low IQ have risen since 1960. If you focus on the economic changes since 1960, those with low IQ have faced a labor market in which the market value of a strong back has dropped while the value of brains has soared...

...If you focus on the reforms and social programs of the 1960s, the reductions in immediate penalties for destructive behavior (e.g., doing drugs, dropping out of school, grabbing purses, having a baby without marriage) had the most effect on people who were impulsive, attracted to immediate gratification, and unable to foresee long-term consequences—qualities associated with low IQ. The effects of such changes in incentives among the smart were much smaller....

Such a test, assuming this is real and not urban legend, was based on _American_ blacks and so subject to enormous quibbles, starting with a issues of racial definition and genetic background over the past few hundred years of American history. Then throw in educational and cultural issues.

Any real tests here would be done in black Africa, and in indigenous languages.

"It is racist to discuss IQ because the average black person has an IQ of 85."
Reference, please. We need documentation before passing this along.

Maybe we can worry only about our own population rather than “The Cosmos.”

I wouldn’t mind that, but to me it’s very hard to separate moral and spiritual.

When you lose site of God, what rules your morals? What do you judge them by? You? (not you...)

The work “they” would be willing to do they aren’t qualified for.

The work they are qualified for, is being done by immigrants, or is automated/mechanized.

Which leaves them on the sidewalks wondering why they graduated from HS, when they can’t read or write, being encouraged to go on to college, where they cannot keep up.

An’ blamin’ whitey, fo dey troubles.

Who are you, my adviser? Ok fine!

According to Ken Robinson (2009) the IQ test was developed by eugenicists in order to legitimate their paternalistic vision with quantitative data (p. 35-42).

I'm sorry, you're granddaughter has the knack...

LOL, thanks for the vid link, it's right on. My daughter bought her a cabinet table and bin set from Ikea for the three-year-old's birthday. I was going to put it together, but the kid took my tools and did the job. Her mom was nervous as the kid used a hammer to knock dowels in place and a power screwdriver, but no problems and the kid assembled it perfectly. She'd rather play with my grown-up tools in my tool shed than with toys. Of course I keep her away from power tools other than a battery-powered hand-drill (which she loves).

Interesting debate, but also full of traps. I think both of you are followers of God (Hi Tech in particular).

For my part, whomever is of Christ Jesus is my brother or sister. But I also think whoever attempts to suppress statistics of race are themselves racists. If they really wanted to improve problems, they would address the problems. That is the Engineer in me, but also the son of Christ through His suffering.

I appreciate the distinction between HiTech RedNeck and myself, because I am a believer in God. I am neither the best example of a Christian or currently an attending Christian.

Therefore, folks should not look to me as an example. I can explain what my beliefs are and others can consider them.

I had to come up with a policy based on race, because after watching Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, and the Democrat party game race for decades on end, particularly claiming to be more caring about races than the side who actually did things to end Slavery and racism, I didn’t want any part of treating folks differently.

I don’t care about racial demographic statistics. I care about community or regional numbers. If an area is depressed, there is unemployment and it needs help, then I’ll address that.

If I were a politician I would address every crowd the exact same way.

Everyone cares about putting food on the table.
Everyone wants to own their own home.
Everyone wants to provide for their children.
Everyone wants a crime free neighborhood.
Everyone wants a good education system.
Everyone wants an even chance at a job or promotion.
Everyone wants to be treated with dignity, and to have someone care about them.

As a politician, I could provide that.

I would prove it by never singling out someone by race, and always doing the best I could do for their and every other community.

Just not going to play that game.

I don’t consider that racist.

I agree my friend. I also hope I did not offend you. I respect your beliefs. You take care, and if there is ever anything you need, please let me know. My God would have asked the same. And HiTech RedNeck is one helluva guy,

I believe in the case of the overtly godless, at least, something like community morality kicks in. If that is somewhat decent, the person with a better moral sense will do better there.

I’m getting into speculative matters here and I hope not to contradict anything that is presented in the bible. But perhaps to share some ideas that have come to me on how morality and spirituality tie together. Those ideas could change as I become more acquainted with the Lord.
