Trump's bumptious body language dominates

For anyone who watched Wednesday night's Republican primary debate with the volume turned down, there was a clear winner, communication experts say: Donald Trump, hands down.

"When it comes to body language, nobody does it better," says David Givens, director of the Center for Nonverbal Studies in Spokane, Washington. "He just neutralizes the opposition."

*snip*

He leans forward on the lectern.

Trump's opponents tend to stand up straight, which might please their mothers, but doesn't do much for the audience. Givens notes that Trump puts his hands on the lectern and leans forward. "It's like he's doing a pushup. It's a display of power," he says.

He gestures out to the audience.

It's a very big gesture, Givens says, reaching way out. "He extends his hands towards you. It's very personal," Givens says.

His palms are up.

When he does these big gestures, he usually has his palms up.

"He's saying 'I'm open, I am who I am and you can trust me,'" Morgan says, noting that Trump tends to have his palms up when facing the audience or when journalists ask him questions, but not when he faces his opponents.

IF Bush stood on his toes the whole night( it think he did), he is very insure. I find tall guys who marry shrimp women are usually very insecure. Not packing much so to speak.

That he or his people thought that symbolic ‘bigness’ was needed says a lot. And insecurity is it. It goes to show how shallow and dishonest his candidacy is.

Remember the Nixon-Kennedy debate. It all came down to Nixon sweating.

Hi Marcella. I’ve gone through the debate videos and haven’t come across any footage of Trump sweating - at least the beads of sweat across the forehead, as the other male candidates.

I saw his face get red, a couple of times, but not the sweat beads. Maybe I missed something, in going through the footage.

Yes, I’ve read that the room was, for some unknown reason, extremely warm. I was impressed that Trump was able to keep his cool....literally ;-)

“Trump had a valid reason for his self-restraint;...”

And for a very good reason too.

President Trump is going to need a good cleaning lady who is also proficient in shinning shoes - someone who pays attention to detail like the corner of the windows and double-buffing those politically incorrect Belvedere crocodile shoes.

He doesn’t want to upset Cara too much; it’s more important that she’ll be ready to assume her new position in the Trump White House.

“I (almost) feel sorry for the guy, because you can tell his heart really isn’t in this thing. He knows he’s not going to win and doesn’t even really want to. He was dragooned into this by his daddy and his Wall Street/Chamber of Commerce benefactors. “

Sure would love to see a whiff of proof of any of those statements.

“No, he’s not. He’s speaking into the microphone. You would think he’s done enough public speaking to know better. You’d think he’d know that today’s mikes can transmit just fine without being an inch away.”

Could be a bit of both. There are thousands of images over the years of Trump leaning forward, hands on the desk looking seriously intense.

“Can’t hardly believe this thread is about who sweat and who didn’t...my gosh what have elections come to!”

Well, this thread is about body language and if a person sweats, it shows anguish and turmoil in his/her mind, that he/she is under extreme pressure to come up with responses he/she thinks can help him/her. However, sweating can’t be evaluated in this instance since the floor was elevated causing all of them to be in hot air instead of cool air. The environment has to be evaluated too, when considering sweating.

Lots of money and anguish could be saved if we elected Cruz right now. :o)

He mauled Jeb Bush last night. Look for a picture with Trump pointing at Jeb with his right hand while touching him with his left. It was during the Florida gambling exchange.

Carly gets under his skin. Imagine— a woman Trump cannot dominate.

Don't be too certain of that.

Trump can act the clown, but he has a lot of experience dealing with serious negotiations. He can adjust his body language for effect.
