Hugh Hewitt drew Trumps ire with a smart question. On Wednesday night, the conservative talk radio host will be ready for round 2 ...
Hewitt declined for obvious reasons to detail potential debate questions. But he showed off a spreadsheet grid hes made to keep track of each candidates at-bats, in an effort to assure that all are heard from. And his basic philosophy is simple.
Trying to channel the Republican primary voter who is undecidedor, whats the term, loosely attachedand what they would want to know, he explains. And one of those things is whos the best positioned to win. The Buckley Rule: Whos the most conservative up there that can win? And then, on areas where they disagree, what are those disagreements? I dont really have an agenda, though I prefer national security and defense issues to domestic issues.
Finally, he adds, Ive told them Im utterly ego-less here. If they go off on a tangent, my assertionand I think widely sharedis if the candidates are debating among themselves, were doing a good job. And the more were talking, the less were doing a good job. You gotta listen. Ive been doing this for 25 years. If something comes up thats emotionally riveting and satisfactory and revealing, dont step on your story.
What headline would he like to read on Thursday morning about his performance? I dont want to be in a headline, he said. You dont want to remember a debate by the moderator. If you do, youve done something wrong. ...

Nobody has to try hard to diss Hewitt.
They just need to accurately quote him and that’s diss enough.
“I listened to him on KIEV/KRLA since his day 1. I was a DiMaggiatti.”
Anyone who remembers KIEV is the real deal. I used to listen to George Putnam every day before the neocon putsch.
“He as always been wrong politically,”
You mean Tim Donnelly wasn’t going to destroy the national GOP if we had nominated him for Governor?
And Obama voting, gay marriage, abortion and amnesty supporting Neel Kashkari wasn’t a good choice instead?
Hugh Hewitt and Michael Medved hated Donnelly and loved Neel Kashkari.
“Im utterly ego-less here”
I’ve listened to HH for years, read a book or two of his and can honestly say I like him. He is smart, typically very well informed and prepared. The guy has a great radio show and his interviews are typically way above average.
However, there will never be a day, or a situation, where Hugh is ‘ego-less’. He is quite pleased with himself and happy to tell you why.
LOL! I know what you mean. :)
