Donald Trump’s Grand Inquisitor (Hugh Hewitt)
Politico Magazine ^ | September 15, 2015 | Todd S. Purdum

Posted on 09/16/2015 1:56:00 PM PDT by EveningStar

Hugh Hewitt drew Trump’s ire with a smart question. On Wednesday night, the conservative talk radio host will be ready for round 2 ...

Hewitt declined for obvious reasons to detail potential debate questions. But he showed off a spreadsheet grid he’s made to keep track of each candidate’s “at-bats,” in an effort to assure that all are heard from. And his basic philosophy is simple.

“Trying to channel the Republican primary voter who is undecided—or, what’s the term, loosely attached—and what they would want to know,” he explains. “And one of those things is who’s the best positioned to win. The ‘Buckley Rule’: Who’s the most conservative up there that can win? And then, on areas where they disagree, what are those disagreements? I don’t really have an agenda, though I prefer national security and defense issues to domestic issues.”

Finally, he adds, “I’ve told them I’m utterly ego-less here. If they go off on a tangent, my assertion—and I think widely shared—is if the candidates are debating among themselves, we’re doing a good job. And the more we’re talking, the less we’re doing a good job. You gotta listen. I’ve been doing this for 25 years. If something comes up that’s emotionally riveting and satisfactory and revealing, don’t step on your story.”

What headline would he like to read on Thursday morning about his performance? “I don’t want to be in a headline,” he said. “You don’t want to remember a debate by the moderator. If you do, you’ve done something wrong.” ...

“I still feel Donald should walk off at the 1st sign of an orchestrated hit job and he is the man to be able to see it and ID it.”

-—I doubt he could do that at this point. Once he walks onto stage he has to stay. The only thing he could have done was refuse to go since CNN wouldn’t donate any profits to Vets — he would have gotten lots of support for that move. Now he’s stuck

I used to like him. Have you heard his petty denigration of his producer, Duane Patterson? Very childish, along with his sense of humor. He has his favorites—Kasich or anyone from Ohio—and he’s is a shill for the GOPe. Buy hey, listen to whomever you want, as for me, meh.

“Gov Bush...what is your favorite color?”
“Mr Trump...where is your secret lair where you plot to destroy the world?”

100% Accurate. At least he's telegraphing his punches.

It's hard for the loquacious mouths of the chattering class to keep secrets as they like to telegraph it as far as away as Pluto.

I think a lot of folks here prefer the opposite.

Interesting dig at Fox there. He’s right.

Hugh Hewitt is a third rate radio host, tasked by the GOPe to torpedo Donald Trump. He resorts to Jerry Springer style antics to make the GOPe look good and True Conservatives look bad. In other words, he is the perfect moderator for CNN.

Lol. I like HH too. True, we don’t agree about everything. But, he’s very fair, and smart. Hugh said, just last night, that he thought Trump handled the question well.... And, I agree.

Hugh will be doing his best to make ALL of these candidates look good. That s a far cry from what Wolf or Anderson would be doing.

Jake Tapper is the main CNN moderator. Hewitt is there as part of Salem Media, whose target audience for RINO propaganda is Evangelical Christians.

I used to like Hewitt.

I listened to him on KIEV/KRLA since his day 1. I was a DiMaggiatti.

I don’t like or respect him anymore. It’s sad it has come down to this.

And, it didn’t happen just recently, I noticed his demagoguery about ten years ago now.

He as always been wrong politically, for example before his current show he was guaranteeing a DanLungren win.

He did use to mention FR, called us Coast Watchers. That’s been a long time ago.

It has been quite a while since I listened to Hewitt.

Hopefully he hasn't gone "Jeb" on us.

It’s fitting that Hewitt will be on CNN. He should feel right at home.

This is no debate. The audience has been seeded with Democrats. The questions to the participants are designed to ambush Trump as in Let’s You And Him Fight. The questions are hostile to Donald Trump. The GOPe candidates have been getting these softball questions. The goal is to eliminate Trump not anyone else. The audience is backing everyone but Trump. Anyone who attacks Trump gets applause.

I used to enjoy listening to Hewitt and his guests when the show was downloadable for free on the Internet. Never joined the "Hughniverse."

The Looming Tower is apparently still required preparatory reading for Hewitt guests.
