BOONE, Iowa Donald Trump zeroed in Saturday on Republican rival Ben Carson, questioning whether he has the energy to be president, a line he has frequently used to taunt Jeb Bush.
"I don't think Ben has the energy," said Trump, before calling him a "nice man" and arguing that he is not cut out for negotiating with some foreign officials.
The attack came as Carson, a retired surgeon running an outsider campaign like Trump, has surged into second place in many surveys, behind the brash real estate mogul.
Trump, who campaigned here before heading to a tailgate party where a trio of other GOP hopefuls were also appearing, also criticized Carson for recently questioning his Christian faith.
"You don't hit a person on faith," said Trump. "I don't know him. He knows nothing about me."

I know I’m going to make a fortune selling Trump in a manger ornaments for Christmas.
“Carson, like Perry and Jindal”.
Jindal is a raving lunatic. He was interviewed about an hour ago on Fox and called Trump a clown, an empty suit, a nothing, a blowhard, a liberal, a baffoon,a fake Christian who has never read the Bible, among every other disparaging thing that he could think of. The reporter, that Indian gal on Fox, can’t think of her name, asked him how he was any different than any of the other candidates that have attacked Trump and Jindal, who she was expecting to say something about HIS OWN plans, said “this is not about me, it’s about this clown who believes in nothing but himself, he’s not conservative, he’s not liberal, he’s a clown, a side-show”. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. This is the same character that a couple of weeks ago would tell you his plans for America and said he would not engage in personal attacks. A “Christian” man who said that was not his style. Amazing what being less than 1% in the polls will make someone do. In the first debate next week, every time Jindal is asked something he will turn it into an attack on Trump. Two weeks later he’ll pull out of the race.
Exactly. And he has been critical of Hillary and has not been afraid to say so in strong terms. How many times has he brought up how Patreus was prosecuted for doing much less than what Hillary has done? All you have to do is watch his tonight show appearance last night to see that. But first things first.
There’s always the question of the RIGHT amount of attention to play to the Hillary situation.
If Trump is the catalyst in a sea change of America, what Hillary! has already done would easily get her swept away in that change.
I urge much prayer. Hillary! is enjoying Satanic protection which is why emailgate has not brought her down. But on earth it appears to be a matter of an intimidated body politic that always COULD move against her but WON’T. If Trump helps get it back in style to be bold again, then America may date to budge off that dime.
The question isn’t what Trump can do, in the end. It is what God can do, and how we can either welcome or spurn that.
No, he can’t nor should he say that. Right now Carson is still in this race and Trump must treat him as a competitor - not demean his candidacy. Ben doesn’t want to hear that - he wants to win too.
Well, if I were Trump, Id be on his jet with his wife, flying to some exotic retreat and having his chef preparing duck l’orange in the galley.;-)
Perry was a democrat the entire presidency of Ronald Reagan now he goes around telling people he’s a Reagan conservative.
Oh lol. I try to keep perspective though. Maybe having Trump be one of the Wise Men would do? (Just kidding even there.)
Late to the party is better than never
Are you really this pig headed? Bernie has taken the lead over Hillary in IA, and NH. It would be stupid to turn the guns on the DEM candidates at this point. First, a candidate has to win the primary in his/her own party - then take on the opponent. I think you aren’t very politically savvy or else you wouldn’t keep harping on something so stupid.
Trump is using the word "energy" to describe Carson's failure to clearly convey his ideas and plans with passion and determination.
Carson is no leader.
“Trump mania in Iowa is fading”
-—Delusional much?
lol no. I could hold my nose and vote for him like I could vote for any other insincere RINO the right puts up. But I don’t buy his position on abortion or his horrifying choice for the supreme court. I will not vote for a pro-choice candidate under any circumstance. It is the only line I won’t cross.
It’s true... we don’t want it to be super easy for them to arrive at a consensus.
Hillary?
He’s in a race with 16 other people that want his spot right now.
Carson does seem to be somewhat tired or perhaps just low key. Hillary comes across as bored and tired.
Low-energy or not, I think Dr. Carson would be a brilliant Secretary of Health and Human Services”.
The way Carson presents himself when asked a question, his hesitating and studdering, and closing his eyes, it’s hard to imagine him running a dept in Walmart, much less anything that requires brain power.......and yes I know he’s a doctor, but no one would ever believe it by listening to his speech cadence.
Now that baby is a beautiful little girl.
What choice for Supreme Court? Gary Busey? Aw, come on -you aren’t that stupid are you - it was a joke.
Trump should be watched and prayed for. It’s premature to say whether he will pan out or fatally stumble, though he’s limping a bit with the Kim Davis situation. (Even there, he artfully left himself enough room to be aloof, though we would prefer that he be more vigorous about how he wants to help Christianity in America.)
